I just heard a rather combative press conference from MN Republican Chair Tony Sutton who said that they are going to leave no stone unturned and not get outlawyered this time. The article is pretty long so am just posting the heading and the first couple of paragraphs but in a nut shell if the vote is within .5% there is an automatic recount at the moment the difference is around 9,000 which is within .5% but all the precincts are recanvassing the votes. If the recanvass confirms the margin then the recount will take place. If it shows the margin is larger the Republicans can make a legal challenge to call for a recount. On top of this there was a double counting error last night in the largest county, Hennepin, which initially gave Dayton a huge lead. This error was corrected but Republicans are still crying foul. There have been other reports of ballot irregularities such as jammed ballot machines. The MN Republican party is already preparing for a legal challenge. The challenge cannot take place until after the recanvass and / or the automatic recount. http://www.startribune.com/politics...UoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aU1PQ_BP:_17c3mU Strategies start: Dayton's small lead is within range for automatic recount By DENNIS J. McGRATH, RACHEL E. STASSEN-BERGER and BAIRD HELGESON, Staff Writers Last update: November 3, 2010 - 10:08 AM Minnesotans Wednesday woke up to a repeat of their long nightmare - a statewide race with a margin that leads straight into the depths of a recount. With only 19 precincts left to report, DFLer Mark Dayton leads Republican Tom Emmer by less than one half of 1 percentage point -- 43.67% to 43.24%. Independence Party candidate Tom Horner finished third with about 12 percent. For any race where the margin is less than one-half of 1 percentage point, there is an automatic recount, as happened two years ago in Minnesota's U.S. Senate race when Sen. Al Franken unseated Norm Coleman. Wednesday's business for both candidates included taking the first steps to plan for the recount. Dayton's campaign staff was planning to hold a morning meeting while state Republican leaders had a morning press conference scheduled for 10 a.m.
Minnesota just doing its best to turn into Michigan. In a state with taxes as high as it has, I don't understand voting for someone who campaigned on little else than raising taxes.
Believe me if Norm Coleman had thought that DFL stole that race he wouldn't have stopped. The RNC probably wouldn't have let him stop as that was the 60th vote in the Senate. In short there has been no definitive proof that Democrats stole that race. Just speculation. Anyway if you guys are so concerned about stolen election why don't you join forces with those still looking for votes in Ohio for Kerry.
Personally I don't understand the appeal of Mark Dayton. He is just awful and he ran on class warfare.
That was a stolen election. Period. But it does not do any good to harp on it. Life goes on. The only problem is that the Democrats know they can get away with it, so they will probably do it again.
We're going to get another "here we go again" moment in a few days when the last of the Washington Senate race ballots roll in. Although, since Rossi is behind this time, he probably won't have to worry about new boxes of ballots found in the King County election offices every couple of days.
True it does no good to harp on it especially when there is no definitive proof. The blunt truth is that elections are very imprecise. It should come as no accident that in the last few elections there have been uncertainties about the vote counts. While this hurt the Republicans in 2008, it hurt the Democrats in 2004 and 2000.
Are you an American? In the U.S. we believe that the person who makes the charge must provide the proof that something wrong was done.
Funny. Your bunch does not extend that burden of proof to conservatives. Everyone knows that Franken stole that election. It happens
Actually people on this board who attack conservatives generally do provide evidence. "Everyone knows it" isn't really proof.
