Rest in peace John Lewis -- also slavery was a necessary evil.

Will any of the Trumpers with no principles on here call this out?

let Biden say “u ain’t black”...they’ll latch onto that for days

We’ll see if they keep that same energy or continue to be full of sh*t.

If Tom Cotton has to wonder whether slavery was necessary, then Tom Cotton ain’t black.

I once lived in Arkansas. I don’t think I could move back. The western half is damn beautiful though.

    Of course, parts of Texas......

Why do you need statutes do learn about slavery. All these arguments about loosing history because of removing statues...I just have one question for the people who make that argument....

Have you heard of what a book is?

A Carl Herrera thread... I am sure the title is factual and is not an out of context lie.

He said slavery was evil. So therefore no he doesn't support it. It was also neccessary to put up with the southern colonies to unite the whole. Thus the neccessary part. He is not endorsing slavery. Read a history book for **** sakes.

Slavery was never necessary. That's like saying that if we want to keep the pedophiles united with us we have to allow it.

And why the **** does he think you learn history through statues and base names? He's a Harvard grad. Didn't he read books to learn?

To get the southern colonies on board they had to tolerate it. This is widely known. That was the neccessary part. No one says it was good nor does it likely refer to the slave trade origins pre-const. convention.

Btw I don't know why he wants statues. That is the business of each community imo. There are legal ways to get rid of them.

    This explains it quite well.

His office is denying he said it. This is what he said:

If slavery was the necessary foundation upon which our union was built, how is that different from what the 1619 project is asserting? It seems that in arguing against it, he is essentially affirming what it’s about. Or is his argument that this “necessary evil” was somehow a good thing?

Can’t it also be argued that it was necessary but still unjustified?

Like, a rape that results in a child who grows up to be a great person. Stating the rape was “necessary” for this person to exist does not mean that the rape was justified.
