2.91 FIP as an Astro, with a 4.53 ERA

    3.89 FIP as a Dodger, with a 2.61 ERA

    Take that advanced metrics.

We somehow managed to get Alvarez for that low leverage ace.

Not seeing how that is an indictment of advanced stats. FIP varies by about a run with average of 3.40 for Astros and Dodgers. ERA varies by about 2 runs with average of 3.57. The larger data set shows that FIP and ERA are about the same (3.40, 3.57) and an ERA,FIP of 3.40 to 3.57 is likely more representative of his true talent level than the smaller data sets. In other words, FIP was closer to his true talent level in a smaller sample size than ERA.

Considering, Fields with a 2.61 ERA could not be traded, this is a great example of teams believing in the advanced statistics.

Fields also had shoulder problems last year and only pitched 8 times in the 2nd half.

And hey, if Yordan never pans out at least we'll always have Game 2.

That’s my favorite thing about that trade... if we don’t trade Fields to the Dodgers, do the Astros win the WS? Per baseball reference, he contributed -0.45 WPA. In contrast, Charlie Morton contributed +0.39. World Series MVP George Springer was at 1.04.

It’s arguably worse, as he became unpitchable after Game 2, which probably contributed to the bullpen meltdown in game 5.

Edit to also say... baseball is funny. Who would’ve thought the Fields and Darvish trades may have been the most impactful transactions in the Astros WS win?

Goodness gracious, empty nest or not, I could never walk away from a resort like that.

I'll never forget when we traded for him and what a surprise it was. I hadn't learned that a deal was done until I flipped on the game at my dad's auto shop and he was on the mound wearing our uniform (it was super small on him too, they didnt have time to get him the right size). Boy did he light up the Dome for those couple of months or what

More sloppy seconds for the Rangers. Now if only Astros wouldn't have signed Cheerios...

Good for him. He's a HOF Spring Training player. Craziest thing is he stole 6 bases this spring.

    Career ST (not including '19, which was better): .334 .381 .581 .962

For the past decade he's had a club stipulation in his contract that requires the condo owner to remove all glass doors around showers and hot tubs, even on the interior bathrooms. It's just curtains for Pence.

Good for him. Always liked him, great guy. And for those of you who may be mad he's a Ranger, keep in mind he is originally from Arlington. Hometown team, veteran during a rebuild. Not a bad fit.

Somewhere there is an Astro fan who just got rock hard at the prospect of Straily being available.

Marlins president says released, not DFA per Fangraphs. I'm not a fan of the Mish's reporting.

    So does mlb.com

I've seen the name, but have no idea who Craig Mish is. Looks like that should probably continue.

Rio Ruiz drives in a run for Baltimore, and makes a nice play at 3B in the bottom of the inning

Be interesting to see if he can make himself into a player

Said itvat the time, Ruiz was a great pickup for Baltimore, hard to believe Atlanta just DFA’ed him.
