that can be true but at the same time not really. there are tons of teams in the league with an absolutely terrible bench. at the moment okc is one of them
Sorry, but you are the one that absolutely knows nothing about basketball. If we are ONLY getting Melo, that would be true. Losing out on a trusted veteran presence who can defend 4 positions and shoot the three ball just as accurately while also losing our stretch 4 easily makes our offense less potent. Melo is an OK shooter from three and a terrible defender at anywhere but supposedly the 4 spot. If we didn't have CP3 now, I would place more value in Melo, but we DO have CP3, meaning defenses can't just key in on Harden the entire game anymore.
Losing Gordon isn't really that big of a deal when you have CP and Harden. You stagger their minutes and your bench is gonna fine. All you need to do is to find another serviceable guard. Is it really that hard? Same thing with OKC, they can stagger the minutes of their big 3.
i disagree. EG is a huge part of why houston is a good team. It is a luxury to have a guy like that off your bench and hes versatile. he plays both ends. Part of being deep allows your team to be healthy. and being deep is whats needed to compete with the top teams. The answer isn't as simple as just staggering minutes for your two best players. thats just the stubborn way of approaching it Its not the same with okc. they have no bench so their main guys will have to play big minutes.
Losing an elite sharpshooter with above average to good defense on a team the relies on shooting and spacing would not be that big of a deal? Right...OK. Ego was a borderline star for us last season.
Meanwhile, the Rockets last year had one of the best offenses of all time and also added one of the best point guards of all time that will give us 48 minutes of elite ballhandling and playmaking between him and Harden. Offense wasn't the problem. Trading depth and defense for a third option on offense would make our offense more dangerous (but not 100x, be real) was not worth sacrificing that for. It wasn't. CP3, Gordon, Ariza/Tucker, Luc, Capela is a lineup with all good to very good defenders also with enough offense. Add Harden, one of the best offensive players in the league. And Anderson, as much as we like to blame him and yes he is overpaid, is still one of the best floor spacers. Give it time. The season hasn't even started yet and we haven't even had a chance to see how this unit will come together. We get it, you are upset. But stop overreacting.
We have PJ Tucker who's more versatile and stronger defensively than Ariza. Ariza's shooting is very inconsistent. His dribbling is horrendous. He's also aging and his contract is about to expire. If you don't flip him now you are about to lose him for nothing because I don't think Morey will re-sign him. No way he's worth more than Melo. You still don't understand why our offense sucked in the playoffs. It's because we don't have a forward who can drive past people and make plays off the dribble. Not a single one. They are all catch and shoot guys. That's why Melo is so valuable. Pick and pop between CP and Melo was gonna be deadly. We should be aggressive now that we have CP. Face it, it's just a 1 year rental. If we don't make the Conference Finals this year, he could bolt. And the task just got tougher after we giftwrapped OKC a superteam.
You said it best. It's a luxury, not necessity. EG was very valuable for us because he was the only playmaker when Harden's on the bench (before Lou). But after the acquisition of CP, CP and Harden are gonna dominate the ball for 48 minutes. Is having another start caliber guard that important? Adding a forward who can make plays off the dribble should be our priority cos that was one such glaring weakness of our squad.
yes imo is it that important. like i said depth is a huge priority and absolutely needed if you're trying to compete. And in this case im not willing to sacrifice our best depth to an already good team to get melo to be a third option, that leaves other glaring holes on the roster Again he in no way makes up for what those guys do collectively.
If you think we lost that we lost in the playoffs because we didn't have a PF that could create off the dribble, the entire concept of basketball is lost on you... Our offense did not suck in the playoffs. It sputtered out at the end because we only have one player who can create; Harden. Now we have CP3. We don't have that problem anymore. Getting Melo for Ryno is fine. Losing valuable depth in addition to Ryno for Melo however, hurts the team.
Yes this...not to mention that having him on the floor in a 3 guard set, which I'm sure MDA will run, will be lethal.
So why didn't Melo come to Houston? Anderson's 3 year contract is too long for Knicks, they don't want him, they want Ariza and Gorden. There's no way Morey would do that. Who else is available? When you take matching salary into consideration, there's no low risk trade scenarios for the Rockets unless it's Ryno+filler+pick. Presti's bet is by getting 2 other stars right now, they have a chance to contend this coming season. If they go as far as wcf, that's his best chance to retain Westbrook, and maybe PG and Melo. If they didn't click, then not only PG and Melo will leave, Westbrook may leave too. If they didn't go for Melo, then OKC has less chance to go deep in playoff. I already stated in several posts Presti did a great job this summer. OKC is in good position to either contending or starting over after flipping those bad contracts. The "all in" is his push to impress Westbrook.
It's insane to me that this thread is still a thing. Morey added a second top 10 player in the league, but people are still pissed that he couldn't add an aging $28 million a year Carmelo Anthony? Give the guy some freaking credit. This team is unquestionably better on paper than it was last season. Be thankful that the roster is where it is and quick complaining about every superstar the man doesn't acquire. If Morey thought adding Melo would make the Rockets a significantly better basketball team, he would have done it.
Well, its a good thing I don't really care about tweeters or tweakers, gonna have a beer and maybe a quick smoke here and then pass out.
Such a great scene. I miss the days when we could have nice things like that. Now all these tweeters and tweakers are ruining our fun. Shame on you @basketballholic.
basically mindless spam of his opinion while calling everyone else dumb. If you look through his post history he copy and pastes the same thing in every thread. It's really annoying Oh yeah and if you don't agree with him you don't know basketball
