I dont think he was in charge of personnel choices.

Good thing is we're about to find out with Gaine in charge.

Because his coach did not want to trade him — he was our best OL.

    That was 100% Rick.

    O'Brien never said this.

O'Brien got rid of the rest of the Smithiak offensive line. I don't think he cared if Duane Brown left.

No.... They left in free agency. Rick smith let the Smithiak line go... just like Bouye.

Yeah same with the Rams and Aaron Donald. Same with Steelers and Bell. Same with Cam and the Seahawks. Contract disputes happen all the time with good and bad teams. Usually the player reports after a week or two and plays. The Texans wanted him to play for them and assumes he would (a bad decision IMO). They traded him when he was intent on not playing for them.

Nobody won in this dispute. Brown didn't get his extension with Houston or Seattle and the Texans had to deal with a season of horrible offensive line play. Of course Brown is not happy. He will be playing on a nonguaranteed contract.

I'm just saying you guys pick and choose what hes involved in to make him worse. Rick gets all credit for Watson, Martin, Lamar... while BOB gets credit for Osweiler, XSF, Nix, Hoyer, and blamed for Brooks, Bouye, Jones...

Most of the board does the exact opposite. Going back to saying Watt was all Wade Philips. Mr Clutch says it is mostly all on the coach. I think the GM should get most of the credit blame regardless of how the player turns out. But there is something to be said for when Kubiak was here people thought the team had a lot of deals with Denver. Now that Kubiak is here, people say we're going after Patriot players. The coach obviously has influence on player acquisition.

Do you think BOB tells RS that he wants to get specific players in round 4?

I believe BOB has a philosophy and RS failed to get the players that fit BOB's philosophy.

I think Gaine will do a much better job in this regard.

Yes I think bob does exactly that. The players did fit obriens philosophy, they just sucked.

Now there were obviously issues which O'Brien calls alignment. I think instead of blaming himself he blamed the scouts and is now aligning them

The person drafting the players is responsible for the suckage.

McNair told you who was responsible for the suckage by who he let go.

We are never going to agree.

So who do you give credit for the good players? Watt, Hopkins, Deshaun, Clowney, Mercilus, Cushing, Demeco, even Duane Brown, and GQ?

Everybody but Watt/Clowney/Brown I give credit to RS.

Watt was a Phillips pick and from what I've read Phillips really pounded to get him. Clowney was a McNair pick. (Alum) Brown was a HOF Alex Gibbs pick.

You just said "The person drafting the players is responsible for the suckage" lol. I guess that only applies to bad players not good players. smh

It has been documented that Rick Smith had Patrick Peterson and then Aldon Smith and then Watt on his board. He tried to trade up to get Peterson and Aldon Smith was gone so he picked Watt. Clowney was a no-brainer. Of course I'm sure the coaches advise the GM on draft picks Any good organization works like that. Parties have to work together but it is still the GM's job to make the picks. He should get credit and blame. Regardless of who gave him advice.

Well if O'Brien doesn't do anything, I guess he shouldn't be fired.

Fire the GM, scouts and coaches.

    Actually that's what we did.

I give RS credit for raising the Texans on field product to the level of perpetual mediocrity and sometimes alot worse.

Coaching the talent he's been given.

This team is severely lacking in talent.

I blame the lack of talent on the GM,

You blame it on the HC.

In a couple of years we're going to find out who was right.
