I can’t reveal any details of who said what when, where, etc. I did, however, send all my bona fides to MadMax, who can verify that the information I obtained is 100% accurate and not some filtered, third party conjecture. If I were a betting man… They will trade the first pick. They will not draft Johnny Manziel. That is all. Carry on.
They will not draft Johnny Manziel because they trade down and he might be gone? Or they just wouldn't take him anyway?
Of course not. I'm sure whatever they end up doing will be very exciting and will produce untold rewards, just like the entire history of this POS franchise.
My guess is they'll trade down and take Mack or Bortles, in that order. They probably have a couple of tentative offers that they'll take in the top 10 and are waiting it out to see what else materializes.
I don't know if your info is 100% accurate, but I'd rely on it. The questions are: Will they actually trade it, or are they just actively trying? Would they pass on Manziel even if were at 2-1 (I think he's gone before that, due to marketability & his confidence which will inspire some coaches/GMs)?
What about "trading" for him? Technically if we draft Clowney at #1 and Atlanta drafts Manziel at #6, then we are "trading" for him, not drafting him. Is that what the smirk could be referring to?
It would make sense that there would be 0 interest in Manziel from the Texans, he's pretty much the ultimate "individual" and the team wants to move in a more "team" kind of direction....at least that's what they've been saying. I still don't think there will be a trade down unless some team loses their mind and offers something crazy.
I think the immense value (4 blue chip prospects) in the top part of the draft will have every team looking to trade down. I don't think St. Louis will pass on Khalil Mack or Watkins, and I don't see Jacksonville passing on either Mack or Watkins, so I believe 1-2-3 will be Clowney/Mack/Watkins or Clowney/Watkins/Mack. After that it gets interesting. Cleveland will be in position to take any QB they want, or one of the stud tackles (Lewan is suddenly leapfrogging Matthews). I would see it like Clowney 1 Mack 2 Watkins 3 Robinson 4 Lewan 5 Matthews 6 Mike Evans 7 Bortles 8
