I think at this point we all know that Giles...as a closer...is hot garbage. What bothered me most about the 9th inning was what the hell Hinch was thinking running him out there on back to back nights...giving up 2 hits...have 2nd and 3rd with no outs....and NOT doing the obvious intentional walk to set up a double play. ESPECIALLY since the last time Giles faced this guy he took him DEEP in the ALCS. Sometimes Hinch just makes me SMH....
According to Around the Horn, Hinch instructed Giles to walk Sanchez but Giles said no let me pitch to him...no wonder he punched his own face.
I'd just repeat this. McHugh shoiuld be considered for high leverage situations if they don't trust Peacock and want to keep Devo flexible.
it doesn't matter if I trust him or not but if you have to bring in will harris in the 9th which hasn't worked out in recent history, then that's very telling. Sucks because I like giles.
Pretty sure they dont trust Sipp or Smith in high leverage situations either. The list is getting small to who you can.
Oh yeah - I didn't bother with them or Rondon. Your options really are: Giles - obvious issues Devo - seem to want flexibility Peacock - they don't seem to trust him right now and today didn't help Harris - excels everywhere except closing So the only other option on the roster is McHugh, and he's done nothing yet to suggest he's not worth a look.
I'm convinced the Orioles ownership is bonafide r****ded. Not sure if you can realistically deal with them.
Oh...they'd probably be perfectly willing to trade a UFA making $12,000,000 this year who has yet to throw a pitch and coming off an achilles injury from a team 15 games out of first place.
I'm sure they would be "willing" to trade, but I doubt their expected return will be in line with his actual value. The fact that they still haven't traded him or Machado is mind boggling.
