The NFL Draft has really been a crap-shoot despite millions of dollars spent on scouting, evaluations and advanced analytics. If you look at the 2017 Draft there are some really great examples of poor selections. Obviously Mahomes and Watson should have been selected over Trubisky. Did race play a factor? I would hope not, but if it did then the Bears deserved what they got. The reverse can also be true. Look at the situations for Leonard Fournette (#4) and Christian McCaffrey (#8) in 2020. One has been extended and is part of his team's future, while the other can't be given away. Here's an even better example, look at TJ Watt (#30/PIT) who finished 2019 like this... Voted All-Pro as both EDGE (1st Team) and LB (2nd Team). Nominated NFL Defensive Player of the Year, #3 in voting. Now consider the other guys drafted as LBs before TJ... 13/ARZ. Haason Reddick. Freak athlete who played DE in college, but moved to ILB in the pros and now his 5th year option declined. I mention him because despite his size, he probably should have been converted to OLB to take advantage of his pass rushing skills. 22/MIA. Charles Harris: Dolphins traded Harris to the Falcons for a 2021 seventh-round draft pick (May 1, 2020). Falcons declined the fifth-year option on Harris' contract. 26/ATL. Takkarist McKinley: His 2019 season was uninspiring--14 games with 13 starts, 29 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Had a shoulder injury in Wk 15 and went on IR. Falcons have declined his 5th yr opt. *NOTE: I left Jarrad Davis (21/DET) off this example, because he was (college) and has been an ILB, but his 5th yr option has been declined also. As crazy as the Bears missing on Mahomes and DW is, its also amazing that no team saw the potential that TJ had and passed on him over these other guys. I can't say whether or not there is or isn't an element of racism in these draft decisions, however I do believe there are issues with perception and bias. According to the catalog of bias, Perception Bias is "the tendency to be subjective about people and events, causing biased information to be collected in a study or biased interpretation of a study's results." If you apply that to evaluating players perhaps its either the collecting of or interpretation of this info that creates the poor decision making in selecting one player over another. While many would insist that analytics are the cure for this issue, I'd have to disagree because analytics hasn't found indisputable ways to measure a player's heart or desire to be great. This is what makes drafts fun, but evaluating them 3-5 years later even more interesting.
whiffing on TJ watt vs whiffin on a franchise qb that u traded up for. How the fk r that even remotely the same. Just stop.
BTW, expect Watson to take a shorter term extension...like Tunsil...to get more money in the next contract. The days of players taking 5-7 year extensions is over (blame the NBA...NFL players have watched what has gone on there). Only Baseball seems to do those long term contracts...mainly because the injury risk lower (teams perspectives) and players want more security (performance fluctuations).
The lights were bright against the Chiefs and Watson folded like a cheap suit. If you wanted to find a leader that day all Watson had to do was look across the field at Mahomes to see what a true leader looks like.
The Chiefs defense was top 10 last year and played even better in the Playoffs. The Texans defense that day gave up 50 straight points and no punts and Kelce was running free every single play. Watson wasn't the one allowing KC to march down the field at will.
I don’t get how you’re willing to give bob the benefit of the doubt but you’re so pessimistic about our best player that EVERYONE else is optimistic about Edit——sorry I quoted the wrong person
U gonna blame our playoff performace on Watson and not the fking HC who did jack sht to adjust during the game? There's really no reasoning with u.
And what a true Organization looks like. Front Office, Andy Reid, Bienemy and etc were crucial to building a champion. They're not one raving maniac making emotional moves playing king. Maybe Deshaun should consider this before re-signing in Houston. You want to trade Watson, hell you might be doing him a favor.
