Is this indicative of 2018 or is it just a temporary Trump thing.

I'd say not to trust polls.

Those of us with a bit of hope left think it's a sign of things to come in 2018.

That's a dumb argument but this poll is deceptive. This is a jungle primary so you can't judge Ossoff relative to the next candidate. You need to sum the total number of Democratic and Republican votes from the poll and then you get a clearer picture. The lead isn't quite as large as the poll makes it seem.

Plus this is a special election and predicting turnout (and the shape of the voting electorate) is really hard.

Its 43-36. That is a pretty big margin if polls are accurate.

People will back a winner. Trump can't continue his sad sack performance for another 18 months, can he?

I think this is a wait and see thing. Plus one election on it's own isn't a bell weather

if you look at the poll results, there is an equal % for combined D and R candidates

This is seen as an early referendum on Trump, if Democrats wins today, there is a decent chance that they take over the house in 2018, so both side are throwing in the kitchen sink.

I've read $200 a voter has been spent.

a special election in 2017 with more money thrown at it than any other race will have little to no affect on the results of 2018. Why would this affect the 2018 election and not the other federal elections this year?

Ossoff legally can't vote for himself because he doesn't live in the district

Ever heard of momentum, works in both voting and sports.

I have. where is all that momentum from the Kansas or Montana elections? Why will this equate to momentum and not those?

Because this is a district with high minority population and higher educated white voters, if the Democrats are going to win next year, this is the type of districts they need to have success in. If GOP can hold on, it means the Trump brand is not super toxic yet. If Democrat pick this up, watch many GOP congressmen in close elections dump Trump.

Georgia 6th is north Atlanta. Its mostly White and Asian. Very very few African Americans. Its also middle class mostly which means Republicans.
