Defense With Attitude (Texans Defense Thread for Nimo)

    Nimo suggested this and I thought it was a good idea.

    After 10 games, our defense is setting at #7 for Total Defense yards per game; #8 passing yards per game; and #5 rushing yards per game. While those are pretty simplistic stats, they're a good gauge for the kind of yards we're allowing per game.

    What's exciting is that some of the guys we lost earlier are starting to come back. Colvin is possibly playing Monday and Dylan Cole is back at practice.

    I've also been impressed by some of the strides our non-stars have made. Dunn has become a force on the line and is making plays. KJackson has gone from burnt toast to one of the top DBs this season. JJo who many saw as washed up, has found the fountain of youth. I think much of this can be attributed to our awesome from 7 and the additions of Honey Badger and Reid. We don't have any glaring weaknesses (yes we could use another CB and some ILB depth), but overall the guys who have filled in have done well.

    Also, I think our special teams have made a big difference in field position, which can help both offense and defense.

    Ok, that's my start to this thread and I haven't even mentioned our stars.

    Still think we need that LB that can cover out of the backfield. That, and like you said, another corner. Defense definitely keep us in the games though.

    The thread is less about the name, but more of a thread to discuss our defense and post some of the interesting stats we've been talking about in game threads. I just used the DWA, because that's what Mathieu is calling his unit.

    I heard a stat from a family member at Thanksgiving the other day and it was that the Texans were dead last in red-zone defense--at a whopping 100% TD rate). That can't be true? We must be truly elite between the 20's if that is indeed the case.

    Amazing defensive effort tonight! The 4th down stop was outstanding. Titans opened up a hole only a TE couldn't get through, but our 2 ILBs closed in quickly. It was great to see Mercilus and Covington get sacks tonight, and of course JJ to get another strip sack. Mariota was Mr. Ding tonight, but we did a great job of bending with only one major breakdown and one blown coverage. That TE play was pretty sneaky and we used it as well on that 3rd down pass to Griff.

    Cleveland will be tough next week, their offense is starting to move the ball and gain a rhythm.
