Well guess Berkman will remain here for the remainder of the season. No one in their right mind would pick up that option. My guess is around the deadline, Berkman will soften his stance on that.

Does this mean that a working deal was done with the Angels or is he saying the Angels are potential suitors?

I think just Angels as potential suitors. They've been thrown around as a potential spot.

I'd hate to see Berkman leave. But if he went to the Angels, I'd become an instant fan since I live close to Anaheim (of Los Angeles Angels of)

He needs to start hitting if he wants to have his option picked up, or for another team to take on his contract.

These last 2 seasons he has not been earning his keep.

Lee and Berkman are just guys who take up money.

sure they were once great, but we have no need for them

can we please commit to sucking for 3-4 seasons and build a freaking team?

Berkman is a relative BARGAIN compared to Carlos Lee, and other players who haven't been as good or consistent as Lance has been throughout the extent of his contract.

If he ends up posting a ~.900 OPS again (which he probably can), there may be a team out there that picks it up for him.

[not directed at anyone in particular] remember this thread everytime you start to b**** about the astros not trading everyone on their roster away immediately. it's not that simple.

I wish we could just trade everyone away for pitching prrospects and defense. Minute maid will always bring hitters, we just need a few guys to work the mounds.

of course. the point is...it's not entirely in their control.

i've seen people criticizing the 'stros here already, saying, "they're not even trying to trade these guys!" because trades haven't happened.

Hmm... where was this thinking 4 years ago where everyone was clamoring for more offense, and was happy to give Carlos Lee that ridiculous contract.

If they had invested all that money in the draft picks they couldn't sign in 2007, they'd have one of the best farm systems in baseball right now instead of the worst.

Seems like the biggest problem for the team this year (and the past 6 years) has been offense, not pitching and defense. Although neither have been great.

Anyone is a bargain to Carlos Lee, lol.

He is starting to hit, but in order for teams to take a shot at him, one would think he needs to start being the Berkman of old and smacking the ball around with authority.

I have no doubt he can still do it.

It is probably fairly hard for guys on the Stros to get up for playing every day when they know the team is pretty crap.

Well, he's raised his batting average 40 points over the last week and a half. His June has been outstanding thus far.

I never wanted Carlos lee for unkown reasons, just never saw him as a big name hitter.
