he's been low average / mediocre corner OF defense / solid power for the last few years. He was pretty terrible for the 1st half of this season, but is back to that guy again in the 2nd half. He's a decent veteran LH bat to have as long as he stays hot, but he's at the tail end of his career for sure
That logic makes sense. Perez, Alvarez, or Colin Moran (if they seem him as a playoff contributor and replacing Beltran next year)?
With dallas looking good again a second legit starter looks even more important. If they were to get Verlander that would only add 7 mil for this year which would put them at the same level as KC royals. Next year Beltran comes off the books so they should be able to make it work. If we take the full salary we should be able to keep our prospect outlay low.
The tigers would not want it to look like a salary dump in my opinion. They would prefer to pay some of the salary and be able to show fans that they got something worthwhile in return for Verlander.
Luhnow hinted at internal changes within the organization months ago. He has done similar things in the past. I figured he would wait until September to let them know their contracts would not be renewed.
Luhnow did mention that he doesn't expect a reduction as scouting department is being reorganized. In other words, there will be hiring to fill new roles to offset cuts.
The Dodgers were just getting dominated by Cole...then Granderson hit a grand slam. It's like they can't lose.
Wait till October that rotation behind Kershaw (who's hit or miss himself in postseason) will get eaten up
Except for when their starter goes 9 innings giving up 0 hits, 0 walks, & 0 HBP. That is when the Dodgers really struggle.
and of course, Jon Heyman is on another anti-Astros crusade and last night, he pulled out the "I'm being attacked by Astros fans on Twitter" card even though it's pretty clear that he has no interest in uncovering the organization's side of the story. Not posting any links to his stories because he really doesn't deserve pageviews. He also noted that they weren't actually fired. But... that didn't stop him from expressing bewilderment at how employers can choose to not retain certain employees.
Teams do this all the time, not sure why he'd make a big deal out of it (other than him being a dumbass). It's good to have fresh eyes and different viewpoints every once in a while, prevents stagnation.
His and Peter Gammons's reactions make it very, VERY clear that at least one of the scouts fired was an important team source for both of them.
