I’m trying to teach one of my dogs how to use a semi auto to make sure I’m safe at night.

    Not going well.

It's been asked many times. I don't think gun rights activists are that interested in answering that. Seems you have another person evading it.

I'll say it again though: to answer that type of question, you have to say our citizens are one of three things (or a combination).
    1. Inferior in terms of mental health. Vastly inferior.
    2. Inferior in terms of a violent culture.
    3. Living under an inferior set of laws.

There's no other way out. Evading the question is not an answer, of course.

So why do other first world developed nations not feel the need to arm their public schools?

I do wonder how many mass shootings there might be at houses of congress if it was as weakly defended as schools are. Hell, they have more armed guards watching 20 or 25 congressmen take baseball practice on the weekends than schools with 3000 children. Clearly we see where we as a society place our priorities.

Also places like Congress are high profile areas where there are possibly millions of unhinged individal who have specific disdain and hatred for individal politicians. Being famous means there are millions of people who know you which also means there are SIGNIFICANTLY more people who are SPECIFICALLY targeting said celebrity or politician .

I'm not against employees with a concealed carry license carrying in public property, but this is obviously a a diversion tactic to rile up controversy that Trump has done A LOT.

As for those who believe that simply banning firearms will stop violence and mass murder, there is an uncomfortable truth to reality,

    Criminals don't follow the law
And since probation works so well, as we saw with alcohol, drugs, and guns in nations where the private ownership of firearms is heavily restricted.

Texas already allows districts the authority to let teachers carry guns. I realize most here would prefer the college educated CHL holding teachers be forced to disarm themselves and wait for the GED holding police officer to get done hiding outside, but unfortunately that won't happen. They are already allowed to defend themselves.

We need more guards at schools. Nothing like a good old police state to nurture the younger generation.

I don't know what a degree in English helps in training for stress shoots?

Also, unqualified teachers isn't the largest concern. It's the mixture of firearms being entered into our school campuses where there are thoisands of irresponsible and curious children.

If this wacko hypothetical ever gains prevelence across the nation, trust me, the amount of school deaths due to negligent discharges or a child stumbling accross a firearm just might eclipse the amount of people dieing in mass shootings in schools which would depressingly ironic.

Also you are right in regard to many of our police departments across the nation have laughably low recruitment standards and training.

This argument was used in the 1990's against concealed carry. Concealed carry has spread across the nation and the argument was shown to be BS.

The cross section of english degree and CHL holder probably has an incredibly low criminal record. I'd trust that person with a gun fighting for their own life over a coward cop hiding outside.

Does conceal carry have the same context of being surrounded by 6 year olds in mass?

    Also data please .

Highly-trained armed LE officer stays outside the school... and we instead would put that burden on school teachers...

Worse, it has context of being around adults with the body capable of reaching a weapon. (6 year olds are small)

You dispute college educated teachers that have passed a CHL background check have clean criminal records and are asking for proof? Seriously?

I'm not completely against the idea of teachers being allowed to carry if they are trained to do so, but I just don't see that as a real solution to the problem in a lot of cases. Perhaps in some of the smaller rural schools or in situations where the faculty happens to be very well suited for that kind of thing, but overall I don't see allowing teachers to carry as something that would provide sufficient security to where there won't still be a need for increased security personnel.

How often are you confrontational with an adult that leads to physical altercation?

Seriously? If you think bum fights amongst adults happen at a higher rate than kids being curious and doing irresponsible things, you are out of touch .

I would dispute the notion that he was "well trained" and the fact that he was a coward just shows the need for more than one guy to protect a school of 3000. If there was even a 2nd guy at that school, the officer would likely have been shamed into trying to do something.

Also, the coward cop just shows the need for better training and better vetting. You can't give just anyone that kind of responsibility.
