Given that you already have a lot of work experience an MBA isn't an awful idea. I would guess that a lot of the people saying an MBA is overrated are those who go for it straight from undergrad.... And their lack of work exp makes getting a great job difficult. If you leave Adobe on amicable terms , I'm not sure you can't go back ... Just food for thought.
If you don't like school and the field you would be studying do option A. If you do like school and enjoy scholarly endeavors do option B especially if that salary they talked about is real. But if you are only doing option B for the salary, then forget it and try work at ways in your job and career to increase the salary as much as you can. Plenty of people love study and the idea of higher education. If that is something you really enjoy, then go for B. If you have no interest in scholastics for their own sake and not for just increased potential salary then forget it and go with option A.
No. An MBA is overrated because he's wanting a somewhat quantitative role. He doesn't need to write 20 papers on why he feels business strategy has come a long way in the past twenty years to do that. He needs to learn some tangible skills (by doing a more appropriate masters than an MBA) in data analysis and just be at a role for a while. He can move into management that way too. What scholarly endeavors does one undertake during an MBA? I'm genuinely asking. Because I really don't think anyone (generalizing) who actually enjoys academia or being scholarly goes for an MBA. I think (generally, not all) people who think it's a ticket to a better salary or a management position go for an MBA.
