Leon is probably a 1st rd pick if draft eligible and more of a slam dunk prospect than most of the picks so far.

Didn't know Chris Burke worked for ESPN. (He's doing draft coverage on ESPN 2 right now and has a painting of his walk-off against the Braves in his background)

Well after a day of waiting, the first member of the Houston Astros draft class of 2020 is...

Round 2, Pick 72: Alex Santos II, RHP, Mount St. Michael Academy (Bronx, New York)

Santos is committed to Maryland. MLBN guys thought that he was a late-1st talent and compared him to German Marquez and Sandy Alcantara

That's a good pick. I might have gone with a college player, but you can't argue with the upside or the value. Big time potential.

Not all that excited about Santos but looks like a high upside guy and a decent value. He probably slots in the 6-10 range on Houston’s prospect list.

FWIW I would have taken Casey Martin, Cole Wilcox, or Gage Workman there. Hoping Workman is available at 101.

Santos was hitting 95 mph at a showcase and some reports he is throwing even harder now, in the upper 90’s. He has the reputation of being very aggressive on the mound. They will try to clean up his delivery. I wouldn’t be shocked if he pushes 100 mph after they work with him.

He is still a high school kid, so there are concerns there with volatility but he has a lot of upside with his size, velocity and feel for the game. He is the type of high upside player aThis front office will target.

Round 3, Pick 101: Tyler Brown, RHP, Vanderbilt

Rumors came about that he was planning to stay in school but he said those comments were taken out of context.

    Reliever.

A college reliever topping at 96? Meh. Probably slots in the 20-30 range on Houstons prospect list.

Gage Workman went one pick later, I think there’s a really good chance he ends up being an everyday player.

I wonder if they went with someone they could get under slot so they could give Santos above slot money.

Very high risk due to the signs of big strikeout problems, but also very high upside for a 4th rounder.
