It will be an extremely interesting year for Pena next season. If he can repeat his offensive success at the higher levels, he could very well position himself as the Correa replacement. It would be huge if we can dull the upcoming offensive losses in house so we can continue to invest our resources in pitching.
Yep. If I'm looking for guys at each position going into next season who have a chance to move themselves into Houston's long term plans (or into position to be a key player in an important trade a la Martin/Beer/JBB), he is definitely on the list: C: Lee, Perry IF: Pena, Nova, Arauz OF: McKenna, Brewer, Barber
Peckers win Game 1. RR up 3-2 in the 3rd. Kent Emanuel got the start. [eta and Emanuel just imploded in the 3rd, 5-3 Sacramento, top 4]
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/do-we-even-need-minor-league-baseball/ Pretty interesting article. I would predict 5 or so years from now the average Org will only have 4-5 minor league teams: A rookie league team to give actual game time to the huge number of prospects in the team’s complex (for Houston, their GCL team). Teams could have upwards of 100 players in their complex at any given time between new draftees, international signees, teenagers still workin on fundamentals, and older prospects working on specific adjustment. Foreign prospects could be brought stateside right away to hasten their development on and off the field while saving money by eliminating the DSL. An A ball team to give young prospects a chance to play 150+ games against other elite young talent. A AA team where prospects refine their game and audition as trade bait for other teams. This is already the level where players separate themselves. A AAA team that houses extra MLB players. This allows teams to maintain a backlog of talent without clogging up the pipeline.
Correa plays in Round Rock tonight... I would rather have him healthy than have the Express win it all...
Taylor Jones was knocking the crap out of the ball. His lower half looked way better to me than it did in April. I’ve never thought much of him but he looked like a major league quality hitter tonight. Drew Ferguson is going to be a major leaguer for a long time. He’s got more power than he’s given credit for. Correa looked a little stiff and was playing cautious but whatev. The pitchers didn’t impress me at all.
Jorge Alcala got called up for the Twins. They're gonna get at least some major league production out of the Ryan Pressly trade.
