It's a bit of a different situation, but Kiffin going to FAU feels a little bit like when Bobby Petrino took the job at Western Kentucky. In both cases, there was an assumption that it was just a stopover until the next big job opportunity came along. I'm sure Kiffin's going to recruit better than FAU has ever recruited, that increased level of talent will be reflected on the field pretty quickly, and he'll find himself in the mix for better jobs as soon as next offseason.
This seems odd, almost like there's something else going on. For one, the timing is poor. It's unlikely UConn is going to be a player for the biggest names in the coaching world anyway, but it certainly gets even tougher if you wait until a month after the season is over. Furthermore, it's only year three for him, they were in a bowl game last year, and it's not as if the program has some illustrious history to which they have to live up. Randy Edsall is the most successful coach they've ever had and his overall record was 74-70 in 11 years on the job. Their biggest success in his tenure was an 8-5 season that ended in a Fiesta Bowl loss to OU only because the Big East had the BCS tie-in. Long story short, it just seems shortsighted, unless there's something else going on below the surface.
Yes but I also think Kiffin is smart to realize he can't recruit guys for his offense at FAU. Briles is a win win. They'll score a lot of points (sell tickets), they'll need points (defense will suck), and the players will fit the scheme.
Still surprised no major teams have come calling for Kyle Shanahan yet. I feel like he should have been a big name like 5 years ago. He's not getting an NFL HC job looking like he's 24. Maybe if Herman fails (he wont) UT will come calling.
Supposedly he is only interested in the NFL. Having said that, he has a tattoo of Chris Simms initials on his leg....... you have to question his judgment to run a program.
Very good! We'll see if PJ Fleck is all sizzle and no steak. He's almost comedic to me. Stylistically, he is exactly what Minnesota needs right now under the circumstances.
Not sure what the returning starters look like but he's inheriting a program coming off their best season in a long long time. Kinda feel bad for Claeys though. His statement was ridiculous but he was in a no win situation that the players put him in.
Claeys is an example of what free speech is all about. Sometimes there are severe consequences when exercising that right. He commented on something without having facts, put the university in a no-win situation and lost.
Disagree somewhat. Claeys knew the facts and only had 2 choices, lose support from his team or lose support from the public/university. He chose the latter but he was screwed either way.
I think he could have finessed this but that's just my opinion. A full-throated public backing of the players was crazy IMO.
One of the stranger moves along with Cal firing Dykes so late in the game. Lashlee making a lateral move to UConn along with a $250K pay cut.
