I thought Kyle Tucker had a sweet, natural swing?
"Tucker uses an unorthodox swing, but Linares says it works. Linares says the criticisms of Tucker’s swing remind him when people questioned the swing of San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence,"

What is Kyle Tucker's MLB prjoection? It seems like a lot of people consider him untouchable or close to, thinking he's a future star. I know he's considered our top prospect (or at least top hitting prospect), but his minor league numbers don't jump out at me. He doesn't have Correa-level production in the minors. What are we talking here? .270 OF with 20 HR potential? That doesn't sound like someone who should be untouchable. I know I'm probably missing something so I'll hang up and listen.

Yordan Alvarez homered again. 2-run shot gives him 9 on the season.

He's actually not that far off.

In his first full season in the system, Correa spent a full year in Low-A, posting an .872 OPS. Tucker posted a .750 OPS in Low-A, but picked things up in the 2nd half and even got a bump up to Lancaster for 70 PAs, where he lit things up with a near 1.100 OPS (.798 across both levels).

This is Tucker's 2nd full season in the system. Correa spent his 2nd year in the Lancaster bandbox, but got hurt midway through (most thought he was not far from a promotion). He was lighting things up with a .926 OPS through 62 games. Tucker only played 48 games in BC before his promotion to AA, but had a .932 OPS -- probably even more impressive than Correa given Lancaster's ridiculous park effects.

Correa came out in his 3rd year like a banshee, and played only 29 games in AA and 24 in AAA before getting promoted. We'll see how Tucker goes next year, but it wouldn't be out of the realm for Tucker to finish AA strong, and position himself to start next year in AAA (or get an early call-up there). That would put him on a similar path as Correa, in position to make the majors ~3 years after being drafted.

Correa was extremely young for his draft class -- about 9 months younger than Tucker when drafted. He was the #1 overall prospect in the minors when he made it up. Tucker may not quite be that, but with a strong 2nd half, he's in the conversation for top 10.

Eye test says Shawn Green. Numbers are always hard to project. You always prefer good stats in the minors, but tons of guys (Jon Singleton, Domingo Santana, Preston Tucker, Tyler White, AJ Reed) put up good minor league numbers. I think scouting reports and the eye test are more reliable. As soon as AJ Reed we saw how Slow his bat was and realized that he might be AAAA. Ditto Jon Singleton and his long looping swing.

Jason Martin homered as well. He had an OPS over 1.000 in AA headed into today's game. Yoanis Quiala also had a solid AA debut -- 6 innings, 2 runs (2 run homer in the 6th), 4 hits, 1 walk, and 8 Ks

Starting to get excited about Martin. Always had the tools to be a MLB regular.

    Down in the Dominican...

    - Freudis Nova walked 4 times and scored twice for the Orange team.
    - Deury Carrasco drove in a run and stole a base (8), but he also earned a golden sombrero.
    - Renny Ugarte allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless innings for the Blue team.
    - Ronaldo Urdaneta went 3-5 with 2 stolen basees (6) and scored a run.

Tyler White saw his 11-game hitting streak go by the wayside on Sunday, but he's 2-2 with a 2-run homer tonight for Fresno. He's got 10 homers on the year.

He added a single, giving him 12 out of 13 multi hit games.

Moran had 2 hits as well, including a 3 run home run, his 15th. His previous season high was 10, so this is a real development given it's still the first half.

Also worth noting that Moran played left field - I like the way we develop positional versatility.

DSL Orange catcher Jose Alvarez has caught 11 of 15 potential base-stealers in his first 10 games, although he's played 5 games as a catcher and 5 as a 1B. He also spent 2 innings of yesterday's game in right field.

Alvarez signed for $195K out of Venezuela last July 2.
