The first (non rookie) contract is about the money, the 2nd contract is about the legacy.

Harden had only made $20m at that point, Lebron on the other hand had made something like $150m

$70m vs $100m is very different to $230m vs $250m, plus, by going to Florida he got the tax breaks anyway.

Yeah, Dwight can make an extra 30 million in LA...but he also has to have an extra year on his contrat to achieve that. Therefore, his per year salary isnt as skewed. Throw in the fact that there is no state income tax in Texas and all of a sudden, the numbers are closer than you'd think.

    From the video:

Dwight: "were gonna get an opportunity to get some rest, for guys that are injured...a chance to rehab and think about what we can all do to better ourselves".

Reporter: "It sounds like maybe you're showing some optimism about being back by saying that? Or maybe Im reading too much into that?"

Dwight: "You're reading too much into it."

    ---------------

Warmly welcome Dwight Howard to Houston.

Umm that is a very ridicilous statement.

Are you going to sit here and tell me that DeAndre Jordan is anywhere near being close to being better than Marc Gasol or Tim Duncan?

He isn't even better than Demarcus Cousins.

If Dwight says he wants to come here and you don't even have to give up anything for him but cap space, I don't care... of course you say yes. You'd have to be stupid not to.

Remember that with Dwight onboard you're free to trade Asik and other parts for another upgrade, possibly a SnT for Paul Millsap or some similar guy who can be the 3rd best player on a championship team.

Suddenly you have a big three and that doesn't even factor continued development from Chandler Parsons.

I hear a lot of mention about Sign & Trade but many other posts about how this is redundant under the new CBA.

Can anyone clarify why sign and trade doesn't work anymore under the new CBA?

the player gains nothing from it, so he has no reason to request it

This is true for the player but not for the teams involved. It is true that the player being signed and traded will no longer receive the extra year for the contract, however, the team which is losing the player (LA in this case) may very well rather get something in return if they are losing the player anyway. Moreover, the team acquiring the player (Houston in this case) may want to shed some salary to reduce payroll.

Particularly in our case, we have some useful pieces which other teams may want. If Dwight says he wants out, I doubt LA would say no to getting Asik in return rather than letting him walk. They don't have any cap space and have no chance of getting a starting C anywhere near as good as Asik with their trade chips.

Dwight has yet to prove he can lead a team in the Western Conference deep into the WC Finals

The question then is why would we do the sign and trade. Why would you as a player, want the team you are signing with to give away players they don't have to?

In the past, that extra year was the reason the player wanted a sign and trade.

If Dwight did come to Houston, we'd probably give them a TPE, just to be polite, but other than that, nadda, we'd want Asik to trade for a power forward.

The problem is not whether DH12 will come to HOU, is about if we can change him.
Otherwise, it would be a nightmare for us.

The Rockets should be the best team to do it.

He doesn't need to lead anything! He can team up with Harden + a killer PF, and if that doesn't work out we bring in Lebron to team up with both of them in a couple years
