His value has actually gone down since last season. It did with another team, another eye witness.

The Texans were willing to franchise him. The hold out also affected circumstances but now another doesn't want to give top money long-term. Instead of trying to still argue about O'Brien, ask yourself why his value declined despite being during his national television games

    Edit: despite being praised

$13 million a year is what DJ Reader got. Says ALOT about Clowney's value and why the Texans couldn't get great value for him.

Titans did not draft one edge. They literally have nobody. Literally. Seattle drafted two. They are officially out. It's a good fit and he has leverage now. Internally, this is his only best option, but he has enough leverage to get paid in that 18 mill range. I see that as done.

So Clowney likes Vrabel but not BoB?

    Not surprised.

No idea how he has leverage. No one has signed him before the draft, leverage is gone. Just because Titans don’t have anyone right now doesn’t mean they’re going to pay Clowney $18M+

Clowney traded for a 2020 3rd round pick, Jacob Martin & Barkevious Mingo; Texans pay half his salary

I'd rather have Yannick, but we should have gotten a deal like his for Clowney.

Yannick doesn't have Clowney knee issues.

Texans fans value the players they cheer for more than NFL GM's do.

After all this time, and seeing that there is absolutely zero free agent demand for Clowney... people are still thinking he could have fetched a ransom in a trade?

Nah BoB lost leverage and Seattle took advantage. His knee wasn’t an issue.

Don’t forget BoB had a Clowney for Tunsil deal in place before Clowney nixed it. Probably would’ve had to throw in some additional pieces to make it work with their contract situations at the time.

Also Adam Schefter reported that Cleveland has made the biggest offer. No details on how much or who else has made offers but “zero free agent demand” is not correct.

NFL GM's do not have Clowney on a mantle as some here do. Its abundantly clear that he's not a generational pass-rusher as was expected when he was the #1 overall pick. He's not expected to get "better" in his run stopping ability with time/age/experience at this point. His once concerning injury-prone issues are likely to come up again. How many all-pro teams? Hell, making a simple pro-bowl is an accomplishment at this point, and that's using that term loosely.

In the end, he was never going to be an anchor here long-term. They were right not to extend him. Comparing his demand/return to other truly elite defensive players has very little applicability.

Clowney at $12 to $13 Million (DJ Reader money) is fine. At $15 million or above, Pass.

Yannick is very good but he is not a “truly elite defensive player” by any means IMO.
