    you sure about that?

U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll Is Far Higher Than Reported, C.D.C. Data Suggests

"Total deaths in seven states that have been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic are nearly 50 percent higher than normal for the five weeks from March 8 through April 11, according to new death statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That is 9,000 more deaths than were reported as of April 11 in official counts of deaths from the coronavirus."

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/28/us/coronavirus-death-toll-total.html

All those pesky extra deaths are going to be telling.

In georgia ( shocker they were first to push aggressive opening agenda then lying about numbers? wtf man!)

    "
it is now clear that some of the positive trend data that Georgia Governor Brian Kemp used to rationalize Georgia’s first-in-the-nation reopening wasn’t accurate. And it wasn’t a minor mistake — in at least three separate occurrences, the daily testing and infection rates tracked by the Georgia Department of Public Health were taken out of chronological order and sequenced in a manner that showed Georgia’s curve was miraculously and . The transparency of Florida’s coronavirus tracking has also come under scrutiny in light of two recent reports. First, the state stopped releasing the list of coronavirus deaths after it was pointed in a report by the Tampa Bay Times that the state’s Medical Examiner Commission’s death totals were 10% higher than totals reported by the Florida Department of Health. Then in May, the removal of a top data manager who helped develop the state’s Covid-19 data collection tool further called into question whether Florida health employees were being pressured to manipulate the coronavirus information. . In response, the Georgia governor was forced to acknowledge the mistake."

    In florida:

In montgomery county they are now not reporting cases at zip code as before.

Call it what you want we are going the way of china and when we need all the tech and testing to trace.

In korea they recognize the need for tracking and testing and have the mechanisms and know 1 person can equal 11k:
    "
South Korea looked like it had everything under control. Infection and death rates from the coronavirus were dropping, and the country’s economy was slowly reopening.

Then, on May 1, a 29-year-old man visited five bars and clubs in Itaewon, one of Seoul’s most popular nightlife districts.

Last Wednesday the man tested positive for coronavirus, and now, authorities are frantically trying to track down 11,000 people who may have been exposed in a desperate bid to prevent a second wave of COVID-19 infections.

It's people like this, who don't give a **** about making things worse that worry me. If the government leaders allow this type of behavior then people will continue doing it. No enforcement just opens the door for it all to continue. I just don't get it. People act like the threat is over. My biggest fear is that this whole situation could get far more serious.

The virus will make a comeback and people are going to die.

Important thing is to enforce mask wearing in places that people need to go to - grocery stores, clinics, schools, etc. Let's the fools party and get sick and spread the disease, but enforce mask wearing to protect others.

Great news coming out of Georgia. The first state to re-open, and now the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper is reporting the state's 7 day average of new daily cases has fallen for three weeks in a row, and hospitalizations are down significantly, as well.

Yet another example of how the so-called pundits and medical "experts" were wrong. They predicted a PUNISHING new wave of infections in Georgia, and it hasn't happened. Hasn't happened in New Orleans, either, after their reopening.

Meanwhile the liberal media is out there on the hunt for any pockets of trouble to cause alarm. Cherry-picking anecdotal evidence to stir up fear. Too bad for them most measurements show nice improvement.

What must it feel like to be somebody who posts "shaming" pictures of people they don't think are social distancing enough? Or people like Sweet Lou who are saying "the virus will make a comeback and people will die!"?

Take a look at the data. The daily death trend in the US is showing a remarkable decline. We now know more about this virus, how it spreads, who is at risk, and what measures tend to work. We need to use this information to our benefit, not shaming people to stay inside "no matter what". The economic pain of not reopening is very real, and we need to act smarter, not using medieval tactics such as a complete lockdown.

It's not that it could get more serious it already is serious.

We are seeing some leveling of new cases and deaths but that is the rate. We are still getting thousands more infected daily and more than a thousand people dying. We are losing the equivalent of a 9/11 every two days.

We aren't anywhere close to stopping or controlling this virus.

I don’t agree with your conclusion. With testing increasing you can’t say that we are getting thousands more infected each day. We could have likely had far more people who had this than we previously thought - which means it’s nowhere near as deadly as thought. The deaths per day are clearly decreasing, and MANY of those folks were on their last legs before the virus, having several other comorbidities. If the pathetic leadership in the NYC tristate area hadn’t botched this so badly (sending infected patients into nursing homes??!?) the US would be looking very good. Almost half the deaths are from the tristate area.

Our pathetic Trump puppet Governor is just asking for Texas to spread the virus to a point of no return. As for nursing homes and long-term care facilities we rank down at the bottom of the barrel in that category. Its really pathetic we can't do better

At some level, we can’t be too hard on these folks.

for decades, our consumer and media cultures have intentionally infantalized us to bring out our worst instincts of instant gratification along with sound-bites/tweets as maximum message complexity.

how did we really expect people to react?

psych wise, it seems like a giant “theory of mind” problem, where we haven’t encouraged each other to think beyond the lowest (self-focused) levels.

Also... totally horrifying experiment. These Memorial Day weekend scenes are what @SamFisher described for us in New York before the horrors there, where it’s pretty obvious what’s coming. :(:(
