As an initial skeptic and someone caring for these people I will tell you that the majority of these people may be gone if we didnt take this seriously and provide aggressive vent measures. With the flu we provide symptomatic care and sometimes admit people. These folks that are admitted are sick af. It’s the measures taken by the healthcare providers that is responsible for the fact that it isn’t super high atm. When it comes to pandemics, the initial absolute numbers are not as important nor is it the current slope. What is more telling is the 2nd order derivative and right now that curve is not flattening any time soon Its like driving towards the edge of a cliff while applyig more and more pressure on tne gas pedal. We are definitely going off the cliff, its only a question at what speed. Those who are infected early will likely get better treatment than those who get it when the sytem is being strained or overwhelmed.

So far my cousin has died from COVID19 and several other cousins have tested positive. Their family didn’t take it serious. They didn’t isolate, the family is large and regularly met in large numbers without restrictions. They made zero allowances. Now my best friend has it. He is a truck driver and has been forced to self quarantine in his truck. So far he is okay. He has been my best friend since childhood.
Cousin and his family are outside Austin. My best friend is a truck driver so he is everywhere. His address is in Chicago but right now he is quarantined in Tulsa.
