I think it also has to be the access of care, the efficiency of getting the test out quickly. We have more ICU beds per capita than any country,we have 150k+ ventilators, yet our death rate is nearly .014% right now, almost 5x more than Germany.

Yes you have, but how accessible were they? In Germany any poor person can call the ambulance if they feel unwell and get in the ICU and receive free healthcare. and free treatment.
In the US one has to think if they have enough in their bank account to pay tens of thousands of dollars before they pick up the phone.
They may only go to the hospital when they are already with one foot in the grave.

Now things may change with free Covid-19 treatment, but it would be like that for your first several cases.

That's my point, it isn't just having the ICU beds and ventilators that are making a difference, it's the access to care, it's the efficiency of their government to get people care and testing.

I have a mask because I bought some three years ago when I was feeling sick in Vietnam. I didn’t think I would use them her in the US as it is I’m running out.

I do have an P100 respirator and a Tyvek suit I got for work I can wear if things get really bad.

I believe the discrepancy is due to the significant percentage of people who are infected, but have little to no symptoms -- it's important to remember we are dealing with exponential growth and we think in linear terms.

Overall I view this as good news. If so many people are conscious enough to get tested, then they're unlikely to go around spreading it.

Can't get a test without a script. I'm sure half these people don't have a script, at least.

The general public is so uneducated about this, it's a true shame.

The WH has said to expect a dramatic increase in CV+ by early next week due to a new wave of test kits.

One pundit suggested that we will see 30K CV+ by the end of the month.

    We will see.

Brilliant but there needs to be some adjustments.
RISKY groups (over 60, pregnant, immunosuppresed) should have immediate priority + those having dyspnea and high fever.
They can't wait for hours in the line and probably have to come again for days to get tested.
    Especially the second category.

Lol have you been out recently in Houston? People here going about their lives normally. Until the state or local government issues a lockdown you will still see large group gatherings.

I was about to post the same thing. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr should be arrested immediately. If necessary, march him out in handcuffs. Humiliate him. Make an example of him. This is beyond the pale. For a senator, and not just your “run of the mill” senator, either, to profit from this ongoing catastrophe is outrageous. I don’t care what political party this walking excrement belongs to. Don’t just fine him, either. Throw the damn book at Senator Burr. He is a disgrace, in my opinion. Hell, whether or not it’s my opinion.

people need to be prepared for this sticker shock because it’s going to happen and I just hope they don’t freak. The disproportionate panic ( toilet paper/water runs) from earlier last week don’t have me very confident.

    30k?

I’ve got bad news for you. We may be close 30k by the end of the week. We’ve had almost 4400 today alone, and the day is not over. We are at almost 14,000 in the US right now.
