Daaaamn...even if Gurley is just average, he's still better than Johnson and he's probably going to have to sign cheap to prove himself again.

So Cards get Gurley and Hopkins, and combined contracts for those 2 will be less than Johnson and Cobb

I think he would rather play with brady and that offense and live it up on florida. Plus the cards love K. Drake

I wonder if David Johonson would have been released as well.

Like I said, no reason to EVER trade for a RB.

You can either find good ones through FA (as the Texans proved JUST LAST SEASON)
    or
You can draft one and have him under contract during his entire 3-4 year prime.

This move was just brain dead, one of the dumbest trades in sports history.

interesting thought. we already knew DJ wouldn't be starting for the Cards had he been on the team. I didn't think the rams would actually release gurley and leave so much dead money on the table. So perhaps it would have been very possible that they did. I mean nobody offered enough if any for Gurley. who would wants DJ? Oh wait O'brien does lol

Don't forget about Chase Edmonds he was putting up big number as the starter until he tore his hamstring -- the Cardinals wouldn't have even made a move for Drake if Edmonds stayed healthy. I think Drake turned out to be a very pleasant surprise when he was initially a placeholder until Edmonds recovered.

If gurley is going to sign for cheap or close to minimum, it's a hell of a lot better than DJ

Small piece? SMH I bet you also believe that the Rockets wouldn't have won if Jordan didn't retire.

I'm not sure DJ had a serious back injury which at least has a chance to heal fully -- Gurley's knee is a permanent condition. Maybe with some of Kobe's magic Euro knee juice he can put up another decent season, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Interesting note -- DJ, Gurley, Foster, etc all crossed that magic threshold of carries for an RB in a season (around 350 can't remember exactly) and started imploding rapidly in the following seasons.

There's a difference between giving up a franchise receiver + absorbing salary and just taking a flyer on a guy.
