You do realize there are several exceptions to the rule against hearsay, right? And if you're referring to what Trump told Bolton about a phone conversation, that is an admission by party opponent. Completely admissible and very commonly used at trial.

He say all of that he wants but he has no power to vacate the results.

He can certainly refuse to vacate the presidency but who do you think will back him up?

    The military?

And he did refuse who would do his bidding?

Not the House and not everyone in the Senate.

There would definitely be a revolt of cabinet staff.

Yes he can make it extremely messy but he would have no power.

Trump did release the full transcript, so?

Do you actually think only the transcript is the issue here?

No, I'm trying to understand why the media is clamoring for Bolton to testify now that its the republicans turn to present their case even though when the house democrats had their opportunity no one called him as a witness. The only thing that makes him an attractive witness this week as opposed to last week is the salacious leak of excerpts from his book that he's trying to sell. Stuff like this makes people not take this process seriously because it appears the democrats are flying by the seat of their pants on this thing

They did ask him to testify and he refused.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/26/us/politics/bolton-testimony.html

Democrats leading the impeachment inquiry have been seeking John Bolton’s testimony, but his lawyer said the ruling in the case of another former White House aide did not apply to him.

What makes him an attractive witness is the fact that he has admitted to talking with Trump about the Bidens.

to me, the gloves are way off. DNC should have explicit promises and winks in the planks of the 2020 National platform. Let other nations do some of the social media lifting: **** it. Since the GOP wants it wild and international, it only helps them to stupidly turn the other cyber cheek. Moral high ground is worth very little in this country now.

I see you haven't been paying much attention.

    1. The effort to get witnesses has been ongoing, including Bolton. On Day 1 of the trial, Schumer proposed calling Bolton as a witness and was voted down on party lines. Bolton is back in the news because the leakers of Bolton's manuscript and/or the New York Times timed the revelation that Bolton's book would say Trump told him personally and explicitly that he was conditioning the aid money on the Biden investigation. The news story made it topical again to really want to get Bolton under oath to discuss what he heard and saw because he is credibly a fact witness to key elements of the case.

    2. The Democrats have not had any chance to call any witnesses. The whole Senate votes on witnesses. Democrats proposed several, and they were all voted down on a party-line basis. They must convince 4 Republicans to vote with them to get a witness.

    3. I doubt they would even ask him about the infamous phone call, or at least that's not why he's interesting. As you say, we have a (rough) transcript, and we have testimony from others who were on the call. They would ask about his other interactions with the president and staff that don't have transcripts.

He was called as a witness, he declined to appear without a court order.

Why don't you stop listening to Fox News and learn what happened?

You seem like you are earnestly trying to make a case, instead of being one of the gaslighting types - but it appears you don't have a lot of knowledge of the underlying facts. You should probably head over to CSPAN, there is a lot to catch up on.

Pass, I'll catch up when its over. I was just trying to understand the importance of Bolton testifying this week instead of last week. If the house democrats really believed he has the smoking gun then they would've gotten the court order and made him testify. All I've been hearing about is this book dude is selling and it just sounded like Comey all over again. If Trump did something wrong get him the **** outta there but this to me seems like their grasping at straws

You condemned fox news to tout abcnews? LoL

They moved to allow witnesses last week too, the Senate majority voted to table that question until this week.

That is why it is being discussed again.

That case was being slow walked, and in any event Bolton's deputies and numerous witnesses had already created enough evidence to impeach. Of course, there's also no rule that you have to hear from all witnesses prior to impeachment - in fact, both impeachment trials previously have featured new testimony.

But don't worry, the House Intel committee is not going away, Bolton will testify eventually, if you really need to hear it from him.

The title of the thread is misleading, Bolton can't be blocked because he wasn't invited. This whole ****ing thread is bull****

It was absolutely blocked - Schumer offered an amendment on 1/22 to specifically call Bolton. This, like every single other resolution to call witnesses, was blocked or tabled.

What phraseology would you prefer? Rejected? Tabled?

Many of us in D&D, liberal and conservative, have been following this impeachment closely and are now pretty well-informed on what's going on and why. But, this is a good reminder that other people -- who get to vote but don't pay attention -- are thinking things like this:
