So many conflicting reports including Harrell turned Herman down after the meeting in Houston but talks picking back up, Harrell concerned about Herman's involvement in the offense, Harrell verbally accepted, etc... Don't think anyone really knows but fact that neither school seem to be "actively" looking at replacements is interesting. He said something to the same effect regarding the offense. Despite them being a "power spread" team, Sam still near the top of total passing yards and TDs, etc...Also read somewhere that while Harrell is running an air raid offense, USC offense was almost 50/50 run-pass last season.
Yup the rumblings are that Herman wasn’t ready to give Harrell autonomous control of the offense. Not sure I completely believe that but guess it’s a moot point now. Chip Brown (who has been all over the place) has “heard” K-State’s Courtney Messingham name pop up. Herman worked with him at Iowa State. Have little faith in Herman at this point but don’t believe CDC is watching from the sidelines waiting to hand out contracts to a guy like Messingham.
He certainly seems to be doubling down with his power spread offense which honestly I'm fine with. Some new names that are "popping up" are: Sean Gleeson, Ok St. Kirk Ciarrocca, Minnesota David Yost, Texas Tech Mike Yurcich, Ohio St. Courtney Messingham, Kansas St. Major Applewhite
This is not directed at you @gucci888 but hard pass on a bunch of scrubs that any power 5 team could pull on their staff. My concern with the offense is not the power spread concept in general but Herman's obstinacy in making beneficial changes.
Yurcich would be a great hire, but not sure he'd move to Texas when he just got home to Ohio this year. He was great as the OC at Okie State.
Yurcich would be a home run hire but agree on the others. Herman has a problem in that the writing is on the wall for him. Guys aren’t leaving comfortable situations for a possible one and done, especially if they know/suspect Herman will be backseat driving them.
Man, can you believe National Signing day 1 is tomorrow? We lost a WR on Monday. We'll see how many guys sign on the dotted line early tomorrow.
He needs to check himself That Iowa State was some of the worst offensive football I've seen by good talent at UT in forever. Greg Davis looks like Mike Leach compared to that. If he called that half, then he needs to realize that it's time for him to pass the baton on play calling. Applewhite would have called a better game than that.
Mod from Notre Dame 247 site posted earlier that Texas is very interested in their former OC Chip Long and that the interest is mutual. Honestly haven’t watched a whole lot of ND lately but apparently he is an excellent playcaller. Supposedly a d*ck too which led to his resignation a few weeks back.
seems like you might be promising future problems, “Kelly also said the players did not make the decision for him, obviously addressing the speculation that the offensive players pushed for a change to be made at offensive coordinator.”
Still waiting for 1 commit. Bijan Robinson, RB, Tuscon (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic — 12:30 p.m. (1:30 central) We'll have 7 early enrollees which is always good to see.
As much as we bash Greg Davis, we had an incredible offense for pretty much his whole time here. I can't believe I'm defending Greg Davis, but our coordinators have sucked since he left other than the one year with the Tulsa guy.
