Herman will have time to prepare for a vastly overrated Utah team...... UT should win that game. Not sure that a loss really makes much difference to Herman's future in Austin. Does 8-5 really mean much more than 7-6?
Herman's future was more likely in jeopardy with a loss to Tech at home. This game won't matter at all for Herman or in general except to the extent that it stops any bleeding with recruiting (probably not much).
Right. It won't matter much in the grand scheme of things but a bowl win over a Top 15 team wouldn't hurt. I rarely listen to coach speak anymore but I'm a little more encouraged with how Herman is "supposedly" approaching his coaching search. Says he wants his OC to call plays so he can concentrate on other areas as needed. Hopefully this means player development and special teams. Also doesn't care what scheme the DC uses as long as he can develop players to it. Obviously we'll have to wait and see who he ends up bringing in but this is the right approach IMO.
Defense just needs to be fundamentally sound and should be much improved. Last year was the worst tackling team I have ever seen.
Herm said he does not care about "schemes" on defense (he mentioned Ohio St and Alabama and said that they just play defense). We could run a 4-3, 3-4 hybrid, or whatever works next year. I'm assuming that goes for the offense as well?
