I think Verlander and Greinke's age makes making every attempt to sign Cole essential to continued future franchise success even if that means letting other pieces walk, trading Greinke, etc. You folks have seen enough post-season baseball now to know dominant pitching is essential to success.

He's already out the door and couldn't wait to take off his Astros gear after the game.

But that's the thing, we never had a chance to begin with. He was never coming back.

Who wants to bet he will not have a better season than he had in 2019. I'm happy that he played for the Stros, but 1 man does not make a whole team. Congrats to Bryce. If not for Howie, Id be swimming in championship gear.

I don’t disagree. I think he was gone all along.

What if the Astros offered him like a 2 year $100 million dollar deal to win a title? After that he could always still sign a 5-6 year $200+ year deal at age 31. Sort of how some of the NBA superstars keep signing shorter deals with opt outs. Biggest risk is possible injury, but it could actually help him maximize his money.

No way he goes for a 2 year deal when he is pretty much guaranteed a 7-8 year deal this off season. If he really wants a ring then I think he goes to the Yankees or Dodgers (most likely the Yankees).

Not sure if the Yankees want to go over the luxury tax either. Dodgers or Angels.

Cole's conduct IMMEDIATELY following a gut wrenching experience for the team, tells you conclusively that he does not want to be an Astro and that he never wanted to be an Astro. So goodbye and enjoy not even making the playoffs in halo land.

At least the Astros know he will pull a Kawhi. As long as Cole and the Astros move on quick so we could focus on the rest of the off-season.

Still disappointed that Cole went out as an Astros so classless. Might even get some boos now when he plays in Houston again.

Wearing a Scott Boras logo cap and already acting he’s no longer part of the team is about as douchey as they come. Thanks for the two years, but bye, Felicia.

People are reading way too much into his post-game interview. Gerrit Cole is a thoughtful, bright guy, that by all reports, really loved the Astros’ clubhouse, Hinch, Strom, etc. Remember his reaction when news of the Greinke trade broke? He was like a little kid in a candy store. The Astros also turned Cole into the dominant force he became this season.

All of this is to say that while he is certainly no lock to sign with the Astros, Jim Crane is going to make a very competitive offer for his services, and Cole is not among the world’s biggest assholes and primadonnas.

Cole was wearing a Borus hat after the game ?

    That's just disrespectful

    I hope he regresses quickly.
