We just handed Putin what he wanted. We keep 35k troops in S Korea and hundreds of thousands around the world, but couldn't spare 1,000 for the Kurds - one of our best allies who helped us fight ISIS when no one else would.

    Just stupid.

Wait! The person is faulting the Kurds for being upset that they were betrayed and quite likely left to die?

How dare they get upset over that.

    So disingenuous.

Theory: If you fight alongside someone and help fight THEIR enemies as well as your own and dismantle your border defenses upon request they'll stand by you.

Reality: LOL suckers. Get the F and die already my buddy wants your land.

Not their land mostly... they stole territory. Turkey is removing the squatters from its southern flank.

Lol.... did Trump even try before pulling out of Syria?

Can you answer me that? So far you just have a bunch of hyperbole about “endless wars” and “indefinite”.

"The Kurds" in Rojava apparently aren't even really majority Kurds anymore, which kind of breaks the story that "some people" are selling.

But why f**k with a good story? Horrible evil marauding land-stealing Kurds it is.

If you want to read something interesting, google Women in Rojava. Every political post has two office holders - one male and one female, to ensure women arent oppressed. That is what we are abandoning, which I'm sure makes a whole bunch of religious people on the right not very upset.

the US, Kurds, Turks agreed to set up a dmz at the border. As part of that agreement, the Kurds pulled troops back from the border. The US pulled out (over Twitter) and the dmz fall apart. This is the green light for the Turks, which they immediately took.

I'm going to give a brief history of American intervention in the middle east since 9/11 to show how ridiculous these wars are. This is off the top of my head so there will probably be errors.

There have been sectarian wars going on in the middle east decades. The two main sects are the Sunnis and the Shia. Before the US/Iraq war it was pretty well contained between Iraq (Sunni) and Iran (Shia). They had been going after each other for years.

George W Bush gets elected right when 9/11 happens. Unfortunately he has surrounded himself with a bunch of neocons. They have wanted a Pax Americana (democracy and peace) in the middle east for years. 9/11 is a great pretext to make it happen so despite any evidence of Iraq involvement, they lie America into war.

The state department had a sitting plan on how to reconstruct Iraq after a war, since that is what they do. It involved working with the already in place Sunni government in Iraq. However the neo-cons don't want to do this because of Pax Americana. They want to overthrow the government and start over. The problem - Iraq is mostly Shia and the minority Sunni government is holding things together with a brutal military dictatorship. So what do we do? Kick the Sunnis out.

Across the border in Syria the almost opposite situation exists. The majority is Sunni and the minority is in control with a dictatorship. So after the Sunni's failed insurgence in Iraq they team up with their buddies in Syria who have been oppressed for years and form ISIS. Chaos ensues - civil war in Syria and more fighting in Iraq. ISIS is now the boogie man of the US.

So Assad is fighting ISIS in Syria, he should be our ally right? Nope, Pax Americana, he is a dictator and needs to be overthrown. I forgot to mention the two major powers in the region are Saudi Arabia (Sunni) and Iran (Shia). They are fighting proxy wars everywhere. So Saudi Arabia backs the Sunni rebels and Iran backs Assad, Turkey (Sunni) backs the rebels, Russia backs Assad. So what does the U.S. do? Bomb both sides while arming rebels and letting Saudi arm ISIS.

But wait, what about the Kurds? The Kurds are a minority ethnicity in all the states mentioned so far - Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey. They have been fighting for their own country in all those places for years - and therefor are hated in all of them. So what do we do? Ally with the Kurds because we are also fighting everyone.

So where are we now? A stale mate in Syria because both sides have powerful allies and the US is in an untenable position where we are against everyone but the Kurds, who are also against everyone. Welcome to the dumbest war in American history - Pax Americana.

Yes, it's always a good idea to get out of the way when authoritarians want to ethnically cleanse a group of people. Great point.

    Why die for Danzig?
Why should we interfere in a quarrel in a faraway land between people of which we know nothing?

Yes, we have only a little information on the Kurds. What we do know is that they've agreed to help us, did most of the fighting to fight ISIS, asked us for help, and they lived up to their end of the bargain. We do also know that they have terrorist groups which are being put forward as an excuse to abandon them.

I'm sorry, maybe the meaning of that post wasn't clear.

Those were expressions made in the lead up to WW2. The first was a French WW2 slogan opposing going to the aid of Poland and the second is a paraphrased version of Chamberlain's argument for opposing Germany's invasion of the Sudetenland.

No, it was my post that wasn't clear. I was trying to play along with the idea that we didn't know much about them. I didn't mean to direct that as a rebuttal of your post as something serious. My fault.

Good Job Trump - the removal of US Troops has not only resulted in disgusting betrayal of the Kurds but now has Russia and Turkey in open warfare, each of course being led by 2 MAGA Enthusiasts, also Dictators-who-Own-a-Portion-of-Trump's-Ass, Putin and Erdogan, but "NATO Ally" Turkey is threatening to start flooding Europe with refugees in order to extort military assistance against Russia.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...nt-of-deadly-strike-syria-update?srnd=premium

Embarrassing Disaster, 100% MAGA. This is why we have professionals like Col. Vindman, Taylor, Hill working on national security and not dipshit QAnon conspiracy ****wits and Mike "Belarus" Pompeo.

These people can't govern. They can only destroy good governance. But at least they've managed the econom.....oh wait.

Also this part of Putin's plan. Getting U.S. allies to ask Russia for help rather than the U.S. His power grab is working.
