I don't know if there was a poster that said this, but some in media were basically saying its something the Patriots do and therefore it works. I mean, they just traded for Sanu.

I don't know about comparing it to the NBA...if you have a top 10 draft pick in the NBA, you keep it, period. Because that one guy can change your franchise outlook.

But the NFL it makes perfect sense. The fact is they have NFL tape on Conley, whether they come and expect him to do better or worse, the tape they have on him is him against actual NFL receivers and not hypotheticals. In the NFL it is about filling as many holes as you can and getting as many good pieces as you can...so it makes sense to me.

It's really just about the cost. I think third rounder isn't too bad, especially since it isn't our own. We need CB help right now and drafting someone in the 3rd round and HOPING he'd be NFL ready is a fool's game. CBs take at least a year or two. Conley may not be burning up the NFL, but he's at least NFL competent, which is unlikely for any rookie CB we'd get next year.

This may be happening, but it's usually done by teams who think they can win a super bowl this year

No it's not. The Raiders traded for Antonio Brown; the Browns traded for Odell Beckham; the Bears traded for Khalil mack.

The driving incentive is to take advantage of a good QB on their rookie deal. That's what you'll find is the most common thread among these trades.

Because of who our QB is, our window is right now.

We really don't have time to wait for CBs to develop.

It was either this or in FA and hey if Conley does turn it around it means that a hole is filled and we can fill another in FA instead of CB.

Hate to have to be the one to say it, but that closes the book on the Clowney trade.

Clowney for Mingo's big contract and special teams work, Martin's 2.5 tackles, and Conley.

Thats a heavy load for you to carry, Mr Conley. Here's hoping you prove that trade to be a good value proposition.

I get that they could have gotten more for him but Clowney has been a straight up no show for the Seahawks this year and it freed up Mercilus to do to what hes really good at. Texans arent missing Clowney on the field but doesnt excuse BoB not getting proper compensation for him.

Clowney actually is still getting double teamed a lot and elite in the run game.

The Texans defense and pass rush have fallen off hard this year

One example of "no show" Clowney, described by a source with no horse in the race:

If our window is closing during rookie qb deal, shouldnt we b big spenders with our cap space?

That's the same thing. They think they can win now because they have a good QB on a rookie deal. Or do you think they are taking advantage of QB rookie deals to go 8-8?

And your examples aren't good because Carr is not on a rookie deal and Trubisky isn't a good QB. neither is Baker Mayfield for that matter.

The window is closed. We didn't have the coaching or GM to to advantage of it and Watson will get a raise next year.

You really don’t understand football business do you? Even if they extend Watson next summer, it wouldn’t kick in until the 2022 season (after the 5 year option).
