Grossly overpaid. He had one above average post-season, underperformed all of last season, and you give him that much money? Guess they're banking on the Kyrie Cancer factor to explain his inconsistencies.

Contrary to reactionaries in this thread, I believe this is an excellent deal for Boston.

I know everyone sees the $29 million per season price tag and immediately assumes overpay, but that is going rate these days for talented guards who can score and also because of salary cap inflation over the years. Don't forget Ryno was collecting a $20 million annual paycheck as of recent.

The Celtics are paying Brown not based on past performance, which admitedly has been somewhat disappointing, but now that Kyrie and his distractions are gone, Celtics truly feel they can build something special around Tatum, Brown, and Kemba. Also, the cap situation makes sense since Hayward is on the books for one more season after this one and is set to expire just in time for Tatum's next contract. Thus, everything lines up nicely on the cap sheet.

So when you take all these things into consideration, this was the right move.

After not throwing the farm for other players they had the potential to get like Paul George, Kawhi, etc, I guess giving the rooks a max extension deal is all they will have to show for it.

I bet you they could have traded him for a top 15 pick instead...so many dumb teams out there, I guess Boston is one of them now.

How big of a leap to warrant the contract though?

And Kemba (mr.max) didn't do much better, scored like 8 points and shot like 4 on 20...it's kinda crazy that the Celtics were by far the best positioned team in terms of asset and future just two years ago, and now they burned all their asset and look like they're bound to be a first/second round team for years.

Well do you think Jaylen Brown is 2x better than Eric Gordon? Cuz EG just signed for18M after this season...

It's a dumb extension for a player that still hasnt shown any consistency in his game. Brown isn't a Tatum-esque physical freak, his body type and performance thus far are a dime a dozen. In fact our own Danuel House has had a better stretch in the regular season in the west than Brown in the Least.

Frankly am shocked at how quickly Danny Ainge's house of cards has fallen. Just 2 years ago people were predicting Boston dynasty in the East now they have Kemba "I'm smaller than Cp3" Walker and Hayward making the max now Brown is making 29m a year? I guess Tatum is expecting a max at this rate holy hell what a dumpster team!
