Defending freedom of speech is important, but you should know what happened then give a speech.

Thats how CCP fought the Japanese in WW2. It's cool I guess but I've been hearing people say protesting for freedom is great, but protesting for climate change is Greta.

That's beside the point. @bearrider said the guy in the video represented "the truth." That guys says, "True freedom allows voices to be heard." Yet China lost their collective minds because Morey's voice was heard.

You can't pick and choose when and to whom the rules of freedom apply.

but communist party claimed they defeated Japanese after they rules china 1949 ,
now in china ,all the books/movie/TV/music describe communist party defeat the Japanese.

I was referring to the guerilla tactics brought up by another gentleman. Oh yea Kuomingtang party did die a lot to the Japanese in WW2, are they still around these days?

A bit more complicated than that. Peanut Chiang did not win WWII in China, and he was later abhorred even by the Americans. He was out there looking out for his and his group's interests rather than China's during the period. Now later after he was driven to the Island, he took some measures, for example, giving the lands to people, but by large, Chiang is not a positive figure throughout. Not that this matters in this topic ... but for your own informaiton

Both of them fought, yeah the Commies were not saying the entire truth, they made somewhat ceasefire with the Nationalists and then crushed what was left of the KMT by Chiang.

Also @hezhenxiangx didn’t say the entire truth about KTM either, there were Nationalist sellouts and collaborators with the Japanese army too. They were a split party.

yes, and those facts are actually well known in China by average Chinese. No confusion there on their part.

1 million people were in the rally on 9 June 2019 to call for the withdrawal of the extradition bill and Chief Executive decided to go ahead regardless.

A large demonstration on 12 June because the CE ignore people's voice and a protester was SHOT into the head by the police by a rubber bullet and CE just decided to delay the bill.

2 million people were in the rally on 16 June to continue the demand of WITHDRAWAL of the bill. I have to tell Carrie Lam the CE has done a lot shitty things in the past. She promised to suspend the demolition of a signature and controversial heritage site and reconsider other redevelopment/ revitalisation proposal but then demolished the site after one month. She also promised to preserve and relocate the Grade 1 Historical Building - Queen's Pier but also then demolished the pier without relocating it. The remaining structures of the pier is now in a government warehouse in the middle of no where. So do you understand where is distrust come from?

The largest protests in the Korea (with a population of 51 million) in 2016-17 (Im assuming you are talking about against President Park Geun-hye) were around 1m to 2.3m). We did way more than the South Korean did and the Government treated people's voice like ****. On the contrary, the amount of people who joined the rally to support the Government and Police were not even comparable and many of them were coming from China.

I see that you think the extradition bill has no problem. But do you also know people's fear against the extradition bill stemmed from a ridiculous incident in 2015 - A bookseller was abducted by Mainland Chinese agent while the Hong Kong Government could not do anything and explain about it.

Regarding attacking bystander with a different opinion, not sure where do u watch the news. MOST of the time the protesters attack because of the guy who has different opinion attack first. There might not be some rare exceptional cases with some individuals when things get too heated. Whats you view towards the 721 incidents and police response to it?

Here's some democracy - I vote we close this thread. It's become pointless and totally unrelated to basketball.

I second your vote. At the very least, exile it to D&D.

where did I watch? And the bystander attacked first? Sorry you lost credibility right there for me. Did you not see a a 70 year old got beat up out of the airport gate by the mobster simply because he slapped away a flyer handed to him.

Well, extradition bill is dead in the water if anything that’s a recognition of HK independent judiciary. They don’t need extradition bill to take people away. You mentioned the book seller case. Was that not it? If anything you wan to them extradite people through official channels so you know what for.

Carrie Lam is grossly inept. I will say that.

The people have spoken, the once pointy thread has become pointless, close this thread or things will escalate.

I also vote that any thread that is related to political protests, or politically oriented at all should not be in the "Game Action and Roster Moves" section. They should at the very least be somewhere else. The Rocket season is about to start and there are virtually no posts here related to basketball.

He tweeted on sth stupid abt China’s internal matter, and apologized on sth else implying China don’t respect his freedom of speech which is concept stealing. That’s not called an apology. That’s Doubled disrespect. He set the tone.
Sovereignty isn’t sth we can get over easily. Sorry. But still, we are tired now. So be it.

No point really. You aren’t actually providing evidence or logically explaining your positions, you’re just claiming that everything in China is somehow more complicated than the rest of the world.
