I hope Cali leaves the Union honestly. Hey states rights eh? They can form their own third-world state since that's what it's becoming. Cutting off the gangrenous tissue may actually help our country.

You do realize that would be detrimental to the United States' economy don't you? Also they would not leave alone. They would leave with Washington, and Oregon as well.

That would be about as stupid as Texas leaving the union because Obama was in office, and he was gonna take muh guns! Texas or Cali leaving would be detrimental to our economy & national security as our military power would also decline drastically.

200,000 military live in Cali alone. You'd also likely see an alliance between Cali, Mexico, Canada & some central American countries that really creates alot of trade leverage AGAINST the US. Those three countries completely control imports from the Pacific. That's alot of sh$t coming from China that California, Mexico, and Canada have to leverage against the mainland US.

That and about 1000 other unforeseen issues. Cali leaving the union would be about as dumb a move as the US could make, and not shocking you would be naive enough to buy into that Russian troll propaganda.

    Ha!

Well, balkanization has been something encouraged by the far-right for the longest of times so no surprise there. It's so anti-America, Putin would be so proud of dachuda's comment.

The government shouldn't be telling auto manufacturers what to make. Period. Consumers should simply not buy cars that are not within their preferences for emissions standards. The market can speak. California's insane environmental policies could cripple auto producers in other states. Furthermore, global warming is a dishonest scam and fails even the most basic cost-benefit analysis.

    GOOD DAY

Well we could call this a 10th Amendment states rights issue however if we take that stance and say the EPA cannot tell California what to do then the same should be said for all states even if they want to follow less stringent environmental guidelines than the ones set by the EPA. Personally I say they should keep out of California's business but the same goes for Texas.

For an efficient market, the buyer should pay the full cost of the purchase -- then he can properly weigh those costs against the benefits he'll get. But in the case of pollution, the buyer gets all the benefit of driving the car but socializes the cost of the pollution he creates. That's the tragedy of the commons.

Now, there's multiple approaches to resolving this market inefficiency. The old way was to set a floor for everybody by regulation. And this fight is over how high the floor should be. But, if you really want the market to speak, as you say, you need to price the pollution so that consumers have the information to make an efficient choice. Set a carbon price, and you don't need the floor.

Air quality has actually improved over the last 20 years. The EPA should actually do its job which is protect the environment.

    Agreed.

I'm sick of being forced to have seatbelts and catalytic converters in my car. Freaking socialists. Just let me buy whatever I want.

Same thing with abortion clinics! Stop regulating them GOVERNMENT.

The EPA exists because if left to external forces, heavy industry will dump its pollution wherever it pleases without any regard to externalities. Frankly I’d rather the government who is beholden to us (ideally) be in charge of keeping our air, water and soil clean of pollutants that will give me cancer, poison me, destroy the ozone, or act as a greenhouse agent.
Most Americans would agree with that.

Look at the number of Superfund sites across the US:
