he has let himself go a little. Good thing he cashed out, twice. I don't think I had seen him that angry in a game.
McClain "reported" on the radio this morning that the Texans are working on extensions for Merc, Reader, and........Martin.
You get your QB so beat up he can’t fly on airplanes You sign one past his prime injury prone LT and draft a project in the first round The you hold onto 30m+ of cap room for no reason and don’t sign any free agent lineman to help protect the franchise This team. It’s been like 14 years of hell
Glad they didn't waste time on this dude. I remember media reports that the Texans were in on him before signing Kalil
Guess we can infer BoB was the fountainhead for drafting Martin in the 2nd. McClain still talking about the Texans trying to move Clowney? The burning trash gifs are great.
And probably drafting Davenport. It is still crazy to me that Foreman was released yet Davenport is still here injuring Lamar Miller.
Well, he's a project tackle, and they knew that when they drafted him. Same with Rankin, IIRC. How long does it typically take a project to figure it out? OTOH, he's had plenty of reps, both starter in game, and in practice. They should be able to figure out by now what they have, assuming their coaching is competent. That may be a large assumption: how many O linemen, or quarterbacks for that matter, got better after leaving the Texans? Isn't it a majority of them? They cannot continue into the regular season with the line that got eviscerated by the Cowboys in the first quarter. They will get Watson injured, and maybe end up Gabbert-ing him. As far as I'm concerned Rod Johnson should be their LT until he shows he can't do it. Kalil hasn't shown that he can, and really should be cut unless he starts showing he can play that position. I don't know what they do with all of the injuries that have popped up. Is the OLine unit that showed competency in the Lions game, able to start Week 1? Competent line play would be a godsend over what we saw in Dallas.
I'm not an NFL scouting or roster building expert. So a question... In the NFL, can you really afford to draft offensive lineman "projects", especially drafted decently high?? The guys playing behind those projects rely on those projects to keep them safe. It's seemingly the one position on the football field where this is clearly the case.
Can't disagree. Pick 130 might be a touch high too. I will say that you can take fliers on guys like that if you have him in the role of understudy. And for one game, that was the case: let him learn from Duane Brown, and maybe he can play RT or G if Brown becomes a career Texan. Whoops.
Just watched the Philly preseason game on nfl network and the commentators spent the entire 3rd quarter talking/praising Andre Dillard and how PFF said he hasnt allowed a single qb hurry in 40 snaps this whole preseason.
Right... and my question was truly a question. I don't pay attention to the specifics enough like I do in basketball. It was just a realization that o-line is perhaps unique in all of major sports in that if that doesn't work, not only does your offense perhaps not work, but your literally meaningfully increasing the risk that some of the other very important players on your offense get injured. That being the case, you have to be SURE if you're drafting o-line in the top rounds... OR have to already have 5 guys ready to play ahead of that pick. Seems to be the Texans have done the complete opposite multiple years in a row.
