School has NOTHING to do with it. Just because u go to a Power 5, doesn’t mean u will have success. There are MANY Oline bust from P5 conferences. It is about the talent and how fast he picks up the blocking schemes and refine his technique. One of the best tackles in the NFL plays for the Saints and is from the SWAC. Of course, Larry Allen is the classic example of small school HOF lineman (Cowboys).

Sure it is but that’s okay, its part of the draft and the job. Completely agree with your first part.

Howard is clearly our best lineman already. Either get Trent Williams or start him at LT. We are really screwed on the offensive line without trades. Same old, same old.

I think we have solidified the bookends for the next 7 years. The whole line will only get better as time goes on. Sharping looking like a solid pick as well.

    Howard, sharping, Lonnie Johnson, omenihu.

It’s almost as if Brian gaine knew what he was doing.

still don't get why he got canned. last year he got Justin reid, rankin and keke who have been solid especially considering their first pick was in the 3rd round

He got canned because he didn't trade Clowney before the draft, He didn't trade that 3rd to move up for Dillard, and he didn't sign any Free Agents of note...trying to get compensatory picks instead. We see that Bill O'Brien wants to be AGGRESSIVE in trades.

As I said in the Other thread, we shall see if O'Brien knows what he is doing.

Interesting question: Howard has started 4 of 5 games (would have been 5, if not for injury), Dillard has taken very few snaps (Eagles have 2 very good tackles). Which approach is better: Trial by Fire, or watch and learn?

It will also be interesting to see how much better Dillard will be than our guy. If he is not significantly better than it will make firing Gaines even more foolish.

Not really. There is are scouts and coaches that do most of the work on player evaluation for the draft. There is something Gaine did or didn't do that spurred the firing. We just don't know.

Yeah i always believed his firing had more to do with getting along in the office then actually what he did as a GM just because of the timimg of it all
