That takes the Astros under their bonus pool (unless there are unreported bonuses greater than $125k after the 10th) by my count, so they should have another ~$250k to play with that would only cost them money to use.

FWIW, BA has updated their tracker to have everyone except Brewer.

Only Gusto and Holcomb got overslot.
Dickey and Gayle got the full $125k
Jordan got 90k, Palmer got $80k, West and Barry got $75k, Reese got $25k, and everyone else who signed so far got $1k.

Round 35, #1066 overall: James Nix, RF, College of Central Florida (JUCO FR)
wants $300K (from the previous page)

If the Astros have $250K left before penalties, they could offer Nix $300K ($125K slot + $175K pool).

Guess they ponied up. See you in 2022, Justin Campbell.

I guess that’s probably a wrap. Although I would imagine Plumlee will sign, and if they like Plew at all I don’t why he wouldn’t sign for $125k, since he’s a JR and it’s doubtful he could play himself into the top 3 rounds.

They can offer roughly the same deal to Campbell (or any of the other unsigned players) but not much more.

$250K is a good deal, if you consider that MiLB should accelerate their development and puts them at least a year closer to MLB FA.

And that $250k doesn’t include money the team can give the player for college. Far more often than not, it makes sense for any underclassmen to accept a bonus of $125k+. In order to do much better than that, they have to play themselves into the top 10 rounds in their junior year. And like you said, beginning their pro careers sooner gets them to the potential big payday a year or two earlier.

You can't get college back though (which has plenty of non-monetary value). Never know what team is actually offering either. Doesn't help minor league baseball doesn't pay much of anything despite tough travel and working every day.

If I was a junior, it would be tough because you may not get anywhere close to 6 figures the next year, but I'd probably be like Nix when it comes to passing up the money. You do it if you feel the situation is right for you.

I don’t know, I feel like a 24 year old former professional baseball player with an education stipend and six figure bank account could have a pretty sweet college experience.

So 5 guys have reportedly signed but are not on a roster:
    3 OF Jordan Brewer
    11 RHP Ryan Gusto
    19 C Tyler Krabbe
    33 LHP Bryan Martinez
    35 OF James Nix

And (barring a late announcement) 9 guys did not sign:

    18 RHP Justin Campbell
    21 RHP Davis Vainer
    31 RHP Peyton Plumlee
    32 RHP Oscar Carvajal
    36 RHP Chandler Murphy
    37 IF Maxwell Dias
    38 IF JC Correa
    39 C Brock Rudy
    40 1B Dillon Plew

I’m surprised Plumlee didn’t sign since he’s a senior. I was hoping they’d have money for Campbell and Plew. But signing 7 underclassmen after round 10 is a nice haul.

I'm pretty sure Plumlee signed, they just didn't announce it. The only reason we know Nix signed is that he and Callis tweeted it. Callis isn't going to tweet about every late senior sign, so if Plumlee doesn't tweet it, we wouldn't know until he shows up on a roster.

Just so that it doesn't get buried in the minor league thread.
