You think she bosses him around 24/7 and makes him everything she wants done?

If so....... ehh doesn't sound as good as I had it planned out in my (married) head..... here I was just thinking he got to have sex with AOC and have her tell him how bad conservatives are.

I don't understand the fake concern that people have with legislature salaries. There salaries aren't the problem. It's who donates and lobbies to them.

    He deserves a raise. Well, it’s not a raise. It’s a cost-of-living increase.

Pretty sure the cost of living in Omaha has remained the same since the Dust Bowl.

I'm happy for Buffett to get an increase in his salary if we can take it out of return on capital.

Sounds like she thinks a lot of insider trading is going on within Congress. Interesting. She didn't limit it to lobbying.

Yes, she wants to protect people from being impoverished by inflation, but it's pretty clear when she's talking specifically about Congress that she's saying Congress needs to give itself pay raises to avoid the enticements of corruption. She should have your vote because she's right on both scores.

Don't think raises in Congress would stop corruption, I think that is a very naive way of thinking about the nature of corruption.

I don't think it'd stop corruption, and neither does AOC say it would. As she put it, declining compensation increases the pressure. I can see that in three ways. One, people who want to be fairly compensated but don't want to engage in corruption might avoid the job entirely, leaving only the crooks running for office. Two, it is much easier for corrupt sources of income to compete on the scale of profitability compared to a low salary. And three, even honest politicians will be tempted to stick a toe in morally gray areas because small moral sacrifices are needed to achieve his standard of living.

I agree with this and don't really have an opinion on congressional raises.

I just think that corrupt people are usually just greedy and the temptation will always be there.

Now I do agree that compensation can have an effect on attracting good candidates.
