Never seen it. Not old enough to care about white athletes.

    Agree.

Stallone had a way better taste when he was 29, writing and starring in the first Rocky which in itself is a classic. His taste got worse as he got older and couldn't stop spawning its follow-up series.

    On the same note

I only really like the first two as a film buff. As an 80's kid? Rocky 4 tops all.

Mason 'The Line' Dixon: [before the final round]: You one crazy old man.

    Rocky Balboa: You'll get there.

I can see why a pampered little snow flake like you can't identify about a story of someone who wasn't handed something but rather had to bust his freakin ASS to earn something.

1st Rocky and First Blood (1st Rambo) were both quality movies that were both about the character and human issues.

After that, I don't think necessarily that Stalone lost his taste, at that point I think it was about getting paid obscene amounts of money as an action movie star as opposed to doing good work.

Like the story of Michael Caine talking about how fondly he remembers Jaws: The Revenge because it bought him his house. Nobody else on the planet would have anything nice to say about that film, but Caine loved it.

I can understand not liking Rocky. It had a kind of rough 70's indie movie feel. Probably seems cheap and slow if you never watch movies older than 2000.

I remember the first time I watched "The French Connection" I waited for the awesome car chase I had heard about. Watching it felt disappointing, somehow. After analyzing it a bit more, I discovered the complete absence of any music during the chase was the issue. Hollywood had conditioned me to need the tense music, and the absence created a void. But there is no reason you have to have music there, that is just the modern convention. If you dont expect it, you wouldn't miss it.

A whole bunch of Rocky undoubtedly is missing the Hollywood polish that became standardized in the 80's and 90's.
