At the start of 1995-96 season the Rockets were coming off back-to-back championships. There was a new sense of tradition, winning and a feeling of destiny that was new to the franchise. For those of us that witnessed and experienced the journey it is impossible to truly describe. The red, white and yellow uniforms were now a sense of pride for the city and its fans. We had gone to battle and transformed our brand from Choke City to Clutch City. The Astros may have won the most recent title, but the 94-95 Rockets teams will always remain the special team that broke us through the championship barrier for the first time. Then... Shortly before the season the Rockets organization led by Les Alexander, in his 3rd year as owner, made the ill-fated decision to not only change the uniforms, but totally redesign the team uniform and colors. The “Rockets” name may have remained but the tradition and aura that took so long to build had been wiped out. What’s worse is that the new logo and uniforms had been designed by a lone fan who entered into a contest and was chosen by Les Alexander himself. It was a complete travesty. We all knew it was an epic mistake at the time, but we were blinded by our recent success. Since that time the Rockets have never reached the finals again. Only three times have we even reached the conference finals and each time we were dispatched in terrible fashion. First John Stockton eliminated us with a last second shot, then James Harden had a turnover disaster vs the Warriors and finally Chris Paul had a non-contact floor slip and pulled his hamstring. If you think those were all coincendences then you would be wrong. It is the result of our moronic decision to change our championship uniforms. In an act of defiance and ignorance Les Alexander chose to completely redesign the team uniform and colors once again. In Yao’s second year he changed the uniforms to a China market friendly design, which we have seen multiple iterations with fabrics and shades since. Again, he failed the process by choosing a high end fashion designer who had no prior experience in sports uniform design to create the new look. The Rockets organization will not taste glory again until we return our uniforms to the mustard and ketchup. Say what you will. It is a fact. The Curse of the Uniform Change is real. Bring back the ketchup and mustard!
Forces, seen and unseen, guide a team's fortune... but I'm more impressed with a 99er running under 100 posts.
been saying that since it took place and have had it as my Clutch signature for years. I doubt it will happen due to politricks smh
