So basically 11M for a potentially decent/good bench center? Meh...

Cavs are probably going to play him big minutes as a starter just to hope someone bites and trades for him...good luck.

Smh...still can't believe they traded a 1st rounder to the Lakers for Nance and Clarkson also helping them to open up more cap space, so dumb...

Good idea to extend before the season starts when you can get a good look at him. Seriously unless you have a top 20 player or a guy super instrumental to your team who's been proven (Capela here or Iguodala in GSW) there's literally zero reason to extend this time of year. Who were they bidding against here? Who was lining up to sign him in the offseason? If he had a shitty year they could have tried to flip his contract. Cavs gonna Cav, Suns gonna Sun, and the Lakers and Celtics will continue to win.

The projected salary cap in 2020 is $118MM, so this deal is just fine for the Cavs. I think Nance has been poorly utilized. He can play small ball C, finish at the rim, defend the PnR, protect the rim and run the floor. His contract is very tradable in the future.

    Good for the Cavs.

Contract becomes much more tradeable in later years...

These contracts with descending salaries make much more sense.

OKC did this several years ago in an extreme way with Nick Collison.

I get the descending salary thing and it being trade-able but still think its Cavs doing Cav things. That's what happens when you lose your GM to the Lakers lol

Scrubs get paid 11 mil all the time. Maybe morey doesn't, but this seems like a reasonable contract.

11 mil is indeed a reasonable contract however this is 45 mil. Hes getting paid for 4 years, not 1. His previous contract was set to expire in 2020 but I guess the Cavs see something in him. Contract is okay in the sense that they can lock him up now and then if he is successful they can extend it (im assuming not sure how contract stuff works) or if he sucks then its trade-able.

It's a cap space eater. Will have value as an expiring. Neutral value at best next 3 years. You could replace Nance with a minimum salary player 4 times and see no difference on-court. I'd rather have Udoh. Or Khem Birch. For a fraction of this.

Good for him though. Nice guy. Like him as a person.

Unlike Turner's deal, I like this one. Nance is underrated with room to improve. Wrong team though. He's a roleplayer on a contending team, not an impact player on a team trying to make the playoffs. But he is the type of guy a contender might trade a 1st for, so... it should work out.

    $11m is the new $6m.

    That's my question, too.

I could see Cavs signing Nance for 2 years, to see if he pans out in a post-LeBron world, but 4 years is a hella long time.
