Complete intolerance on display. Harassment and racism must be rejected. Howard University should be ashamed of themselves for not accepting others with different political viewpoints. http://www.essence.com/news/two-white-women-howard-university-make-america-great-again Two New Jersey high schoolers ran into problems when they chose to wear President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” paraphernalia while visiting Howard University this weekend. Allie Vandee, one of the white high schoolers, posted her experience on Twitter, claiming that she was harassed by students at the HBCU alongside her friend Sarah. Vandee was part of a student group visiting Washington D.C. that decided to have lunch at Howard. Both girls wore MAGA hats, while Vandee wore a Trump t-shirt. Things went awry as soon as they entered the dining hall. Vandee said a man spotted them, and said, “F—k y’all.” Another man allegedly stole Sarah’s cap before a supervisor returned it. To most people, it would be obvious that choosing to publicly support President Trump at an HBCU — days after he failed to appropriately denounce white supremacy —would be an issue. But Vandee claims she did not know that they were at an HBCU. “While we were waiting in line not knowing the HU is a predominantly ‘black’ school, which either way SHOULDN’T MATTER, a man came up and stole Sarah’s hat,” Vandee wrote. She added: “We were harassed continuously. The students took videos and pictures of us saying WE were being ‘disrespectful’, and that ‘us being caucasian, we should have known better’.” According to her account, the group’s chaperone eventually decided it was best that they leave. “After a lot of hate, our head supervisors decided it would be a good idea to keep the peace and find somewhere else to eat.” The university released its own statement via Twitter: “Today, there were visitors on our campus who were wearing paraphernalia that showcased their political support. This occurrence and the responses on social media that followed emphasize the need for and importance of human interaction. The recent events in Charlottesville are the latest examples of the deep divisions that exist in our country. “Though this is an institution where freedom of thought, choice, and expression are ever-present, we will never compromise our values or allow others to convince us to do so. We will remain committed to truth and service and boldly affirm who we are and what we stand for. Our campus is a space for educational engagement to occur between both those who do and do not share our values. Thankfully, when visitors set foot on our campus they are met with some of the brightest and best students in our nation. Howard students are not simply academically advanced, political activists, leaders, and mentors. Howard students represent all that is right about America.” But Vandee is unapologetic in her support of Trump: “This is America. These are the people who are racist and disrespectful," she wrote in her tweet. "It’s unfortunate that more Trump supporters have to fear going places than others. I will never be embarrassed for supporting Donald Trump. I will always support OUR president when, and wherever, I please.”
To most people, it would be obvious that choosing to publicly support President Trump at an HBCU — days after he failed to appropriately denounce white supremacy —would be an issue. But Vandee claims she did not know that they were at an HBCU. Well now she knows, and she still doesn't get why it's an issue -- or doesn't care.
The White House said in a statement Sunday that when President Trump condemned “all forms of violence, bigotry and hatred” that were on display in Charlottesville this weekend “of course that includes white supremacists, KKK, Neo-Nazi and all extremist groups.”
And, of course, that didn't include the many fine people marching alongside those KKK members and Neo-Nazis to defend a statue that celebrates the leader of the Confederate army. So what's the problem, black people!
They basically walk thru campus wearing in "Klan Hoods", just days after Trump gave his support to the Klan, Nazis, and Alt-Right. Howard is 118 miles from Charlottesville.
So basically you would never expect the students of Howard University to be able to handle somebody with opposing political views? That's rather insulting of you...
Don't be a dumbass. Trump shirts and hats on campus at a HCBU, days after he showed to support for the alt right, Nazis...etc? Please......They might as well been wearing Klan hoods.
It's shows these little b****es have no decency. There is opposing viewpoints, then there is trying to provoke reactions. They were hoping for the reactions.....hence, the twitter post.
I would expect most students to ignore them, some to be vocal about how disprespectful they find her Trump adverts to be given recent events, and maybe a few idiots who take it a step further than is appropriate. I am guessing that's what happened. Poor girls.
The White House is a complete mess and Republican party is in complete shambles as everyone is trying to distance themselves from the President, yet all texxx can do is post some random stories every now and then. Pitiful.
I am not going to disagree they were probably looking for attention, just as a girl who wears skimpy or tight fitting clothes are looking for attention. Im not going to get into your twisted version of Charlottesville, but to insensate the girls are Nazi's or KKK is despicable. People like you are whats wrong with American. You are no different than those on the alt-right. You are full of hate and animosity.
Yet the Liberals are struggling to win elections outside of their super strong holds...thanks to the white Nazi/KKK/racists out there. I really thought the left learned their lesson after the election of Trump .. but they have only doubled down on their idiocy. This really bothers me as they will put another terrible candidate like Hillary on the ticket in 2020 and give Trump another 4 years.
When adults harass underaged and prospective classmates based on clothing depicting the sitting President while attending a university chartered and funded by Congress, and the story is posted by a pretentious, cowardly jerk who believes that blacks who interact with whites and attend "white" colleges "aren't really black," I guess there really is a case of childish hatred on "both sides."
I think it is sad that every little conflict...left or right...every little slight is reported nowadays. I would never see this story and think it thread worthy.
So now wearing a MAGA hat means you're a bigot? The left has gotten so incredibly intellectually lazy. It's now worse than when they called anybody that used to criticize Obama a racist.
