The fact that "people" are worried about what low income people will spend their money on only highlights the larger problem.

Even conservative Milton Friedman said it shouldn't matter.

They can spend it on food, p*rn, drugs....... does not matter.

I will also point out that the group that likely would benefit the most is the people in the flyover states and in smaller towns that dot across the midwest.

I can tell you that in a place like LaSalle Illinois, an extra $1,000 a month would be a game changer in those communities as virtually all the money would go back into the local businesses in those same communities.

    When you say "their" money?

I think anytime you're taking taxpayer money and using it, the people paying taxes are allowed to be concerned with it. Is that wrong? Like, instead of just giving out a thousand bucks, why not find an area that needs jobs and work on that city/area?

Donate it to Mike Huckabee for the Trump 2024 campaign.

Do you know where all the military spending money goes? Do you know or are concerned how and what that money is spent on? I don't hear much about that. The amount of money provided in the budget is discussed but not exactly what it is spent on by the military.

Are you concerned with what food people purchase with public aid? Have you seen many poor people on aid buy filet mignon with food stamps? Do you believe that people should have to take a drug test to get unemployment? Are you concerned what people spend their unemployment on? Does it need to fit your approval?

The entire point of providing the money is to increase the rate of spending and to prevent "dead money" which often happens with the super rich. For the most point caring what the actual money is spent on is irrelevant, as the idea is that free trade and transactions are more self correcting and acute for needs than having the government stepping in and dictating what someone can and cannot buy.

This is a grand idea, or perhaps use the money for Weight Watchers for the Huckabee clan or possibly plastic surgery.

I suspect that given the ratio of men to women in Alaska, their lap dances are way more expensive up there, regardless of the quality of stripper.

I would give it to the Trump lawyer Rudy in order to support the Ukraine military.

I am not replying to you as a 'bait n troll' response but only to give you a different perspective.

There was a time I thought it was silly to give homeless people on the street corner loose change. My view has changed; I actually get irritated now. Its a realization that each time someone gives a homeless person money, they are actually doing nothing more than paying the person to sit on a street corner. This is not dismissing their plight. Its simply the wrong way to 'help' someone out.

I feel the same way about anything 'free'. I recognize there are problems and we need solutions, and some solutions will require socialism. Giving resources away is not socialism. Complex problems can NOT be solved with generalized sweeping ideas nor can they not be solved with a single piece of legislation, regardless if everyone is on board with the idea. I feel its bad form to make a generalizing statement about socialism being evil simply because one disagrees with the suggested method to 'fix' a problem.

12k/year isn't really that much money in of itself.

It would make a huge difference to a single parent hustling 2 min wage jobs or night school on the side.

But let's glorify billionaires to obscure our own insecurities of next tier mediocrity...

    $1000 or $1000 a month

#1 Pay down credit cad debt
#2 Set up an emergency fund

    But they wouldn't I think

But if you want an 'all boats" economy you need people spending money. Most preferable would be on American made durable goods, efficient transportation, energy efficiency and housing

If people are actually serious, they don’t need to depends only on their one off experience and generalize it globally. There is a recent very large multi-year study that showed what happen to free money going to the poor.

Since we are throwing strawman arguments out there (typical txtony style), let me counter; I didnt realize homeless individuals would not qualify for UBI.

But back to topic at hand, and note how you validated my point, $1k is not going to help homeless people with mental issues.
