You just spit in the faces of Clutch and everyone who helped keep the Rockets in Houston. The arena was the best in it's class when it was build 15 years ago. Like it or not the Arena is in great shape.

How are you going to change the seating system? What motivation does Tilman have to change a system that is selling tickets at a 99% rate and at a high monetary cost? Further, he is making MORE money by not having people in the seats at tip off because he is selling food and liquor. The Toyota Center is a cash cow and it was designed to be exactly what it is.

Hate the system not the fans. Attendance at 99%. Ticket resell business will find a way to maximize a profit accepting the fact some tickets won’t sell at exhorbitante amounts. Rest assured they still make a lot of money. Then teams realize fans are willing and able to pay more, and jack up the prices for the next year.

    This.

People can complain that it sucks that they cannot afford the tickets, or (more likely) they are not willing to pay hundreds of dollars to go to a game. However the reality is that lots of wealthy people and businesses have no issue paying the high prices and business is brisk with 99% purchased.

I can b**** and complain that I cannot afford a 4 bedroom apartment on the Gold Coast, and complain that $15,000 a month is too expensive.... but at the end of the day, someone is paying it.

There really isn't anything to discuss.

See that empty ass lower bowl...
Game vs spurs on ESPN and we can’t even get fans in the seats before tip off? Don’t say it’s the traffic. Those seats don’t fill up

Oh ok. "Well kids you're skipping school and we're skipping work because the Rockets play today and we need to be at the game before tip-off."

So, what solution have you proposed to the Rockets considering the seats have been sold? Where were you sitting for the Spurs game?

Their complaint is that if you charged less so "real fans" could afford them the seats would be filled because they'd be there on time.

Just accept it. On this board it's pretty accepted that if you make good money and have "corporate seats" you aren't a "real fan."

I wonder what they would consider charging less? Some people act like u should be able to sit in the club seat sections for $100. The Rockets would have to reduce the price by an unrealistic amount to satisfy these people.

This is not just a response to you but to several posters with similar sentiment.

I totally understand the business of it. And I totally understand milking money from the rich people when they are willing to pay.

All this is just saying that watching professional basketball in person is an expensive thing. If you can't or are not willing to pay for that, then just stfu. I disagree. Sports are not like opera or Broadway musical where upscale people go there every now and then for their entertainment. Sports are more like movies for the enjoyment of the general public.

More than that, sports are something you want fans to support, more like a family gathering than a business transaction. Why do you even want people to go to the game? You can see the game much more closely on TV and with all the technology today, it's unmatched by watching it from the stands. Why don't they just have the game played in a court with no spectators, or just have a few rows of expensive court side seats and eliminate all the seats that are farther than the camera angles and charge people pay-per-view? Because the game wouldn't be the same without live spectators. The live fans are as much a part of the game as the players.

In other words, the sport NEEDS the fans to go there, not just watching from home. If that's the case, why don't they REWARD those who are willing to fight the traffic, get off work early to get to the game? Instead, those people are "punished" by being charged high prices.

Am I too weird to think this way?

    It is supply and demand.
99% of the tickets are being sold at a high price.

Yeah except there are movie theaters all over the place so the demand is not overly restricted like it is at a basketball game.

Further, basketball games are available to the general public on television.

Why don't they? Because they make a lot of money packing 15,000 people into an arena 41 times a year, as about $100 a ticket. That doesn't include all the food and merchandise sales. Come playoff time the Rockets arena will be filled up before tip off.

Also, no the live fans are not as much a part of the game as the players. If that were the case; the Jazz and Sonics would have won titles left and right.

The Rockets need fans to make money and follow their product. The Rockets are getting both of those. Fans are not being "punished" by being charged higher prices any more than a huge car nut is being "punished" by having to pay $100,000 for a Mercedes. That is what the market dictates.

Weird? No you are a fan and don't really worry about the realities of the situation. If the Rockets cut ticket prices 50% there would be a lot of excited fans; until when Chris Paul isn't resigned, and Harden is traded for financial reasons.

The people not showing up is an embarrassment but doesn't hurt the bottom line of profits.

if it hurts the pride of fans here , they should show up to the lower bowl. Stop watching Max Kellerman and buying Drake records and spend it on the Rockets.

    99er's plan.

Last night I left work early, drove home, changed, rushed downtown, parked and I was walking in by tip off. Move the tip off to 7:30 to allow us to actually breathe before getting there.

The team wants people to go to the game because it's an important revenue source. That's really it. If they could make the same money with no spectators in the stands then they wouldn't worry about it.

those tickets are paid for by corporations already.
empty seats doesn't mean nobody bought the tickets.
