Shaka was hired you’d think because of his ability to coax solid guard play out of unheralded and not the most skilled guards. The whole havoc thing. It’s problematic that guard play at Texas has been horrible in his time here.
Certainly true - it doesn't seem like we do any of the havoc stuff at all, but I didn't ever watch VCU on a regular basis, so maybe what they did in the tourneys was not their norm. That said, I actually think he had really talented guards at VCU. I'm more surprised that top big men like Bamba would want to come to Texas, and also very surprised that he hasn't been able to recruit better guards. Seems like, from what I had seen previously, his style was built around emphasizing great guard play.
Akeem did the same thing, took him a while to learn not to volleyball it. UT's outside shooting is their only weakness. And it's a big one.
FWIW, Duke just came back from down 17 with 10 minutes to go against #7 Florida today, so it wasn't just us.
Maybe Shaka should stop it with this "havoc" and "rely on effort and energy" BS and recruit someone who can make a three for ****s sake. driving to the lane gets hard when nobody can shoot.
Didn't watch. How much did they, if at all, run the 3 bigs lineup they've been talking about? Having their best outside guy injured doesn't help, since they don't have any outside guys. Lots of athletes though. Coleman is a solid guard. Where are the shooters?
Damn, well **** basketball, there are more important things. Get well Andrew Jones. I thought Jones and Febres would be the solution to the outside shooting problem by the end of the season.
Thanks for the heads-up. Wow. Got home in time to catch the 2nd half on the LHN...2nd OT about to start.
Close tough loss. This team has had a number of those. Usually on the road. I can see them winning a game in the tournament if they’re lucky (to get in and get a decent matchup). Bamba has gotten a lot better to my eyes. Saw him in person at the Iowa St game. Has great presence. Super long. His three point shot definitely surprises and impressed.
That was a horrible loss. All those missed free throws. And Coleman is suppose to be our start PG and he misses 3 straight free throws in the Clutch.
Charlie Strong left Louisville for us. Result = Louisville better than Texas. Shaka Smart left VCU for us. Result = VCU better than Texas. Rick Barnes left us for Tennessee. Result = Tennessee better than Texas. Charlie Strong left Texas for USF. Result = USF better than Texas. Why does it feel like the schools we steal coaches from end up better than us? And when we lose coaches, the schools they go to also end up better than us?
Maybe its not the coaches....?? Seems like the recruiting is ok/solid. Perhaps its just the lifestyle at UT
No, it hasn't. That's the biggest issue. We're getting lower 4 star players, which doesn't cut it in basketball. Or maybe it would, but they're all "athletes," not basketball players. Lame excuse and it doesn't make sense. Attitude reflects leadership.
