George RR Martin had a point when he said the villains in the Marvel origin movies has been boring as they've made up of an equally opposite, yet evil version of the hero.

    Iron Monger- evil robot suit
    Loki- evil God
    Yellow Jacket- evil shrunken man
    Abomination- evil gamma irradiated monster

That said, having Venom done right would be a win for comic geeks.

I'll give you that the villains have been generic, but definitely take Loki off that list. He was multifaceted, and you could the confusion in his face in a lot of scenes. He really made Avengers. (can you tell I watched it recently?)

Winter Soldier was great as well. Though I feel he could have been developed more, I definitely felt there was a threat with Ronin on Guardians. He took some damage before it was all said and done, but his motivations were rather simple.

All the others I agree have essentially just been blah blah blah, evil.

Loki is awesome and he's a perfect foil for that dummy Thor.

Fairly unknown director + fairly unknown lead + one of the most beloved superhero franchises in history.

I'll reserve judgment until reviews come out, but I feel like this one might miss its target.

Marvel Studios has done well with it's movies, and they know that they have to hit this one out of the park, until they make a bad movie (Avengers 2 was ok, but far from bad), I won't doubt Marvel Studios.

Can't wait to see Spider-Man in Civil War next year.

Civil War will be great, but Marvel isn't doing the Spider-Man solo movie.

If Sony had any common sense they would let Marvel do their thing and let the money roll in, but I expect Sony to constantly do what they want to do, and we'll end up with another mediocre Spider-Man movie.

That isn't the case at all. Marvel is doing the casting, picked the creative team, etc... they're running the show. It'll be Marvel's Spider-Man movie regardless of where Sony plasters its logo.
