    2. Charlotte Bobcats
    Thomas Robinson: PF, 21, 6-9, 244, Kansas, Junior

    Although the Bobcats and their fans were disappointed not to end up with Davis after the miserable season they endured, they should get over that quickly when they realize they are about to add an important piece to their roster who is arguably more ready to compete from Day 1 than Davis.

    Robinson will bring a blend of strength, athleticism and competitiveness that the team sorely lacked this season inside the paint. He will pair well with 2011 draft pick Bismack Biyombo to form one of the longest and most explosive interior frontcourts - certainly defensively - in the NBA.

    5. Sacramento Kings -- Thomas Robinson, PF, Kansas
    This is a tough call because if Charlotte doesn't trade the second pick, it could very well nab Robinson. The Kings are also looking to move down, but if Robinson -- perhaps the most improved player in college basketball last season -- is available, he will be their guy. At a chiseled 6-foot-9 inches, he possesses a relentless motor, if not the most defined skill set. His 31 percent defensive rebounding rate was the best in college basketball, per Synergy Sports. Robinson, the Big 12 Player of the Year, is not the franchise changer of an Anthony Davis, but he has an NBA-ready body and is going to be a plus-starting power forward in this league for a very long time.
    Very strong and well built athlete with explosive leaping ability and great power. A little bit undersized but makes up for it with strength and explosiveness. Improving mid range game makes him very difficult to guard.

    2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists

    Thomas Robinson may be generously listed at 6'10", but that's about the only flaw you can find in his game right now. His physical tools should be enough for him to overcome his challenges in the height department, even if that may limit his long-term upside.

    The runner-up for National Player of the Year thanks to a terrific season at Kansas filled with double-doubles, T-Rob is another hard worker with bountiful quantities of explosiveness, athleticism, quickness and strength.

    He's one of the most NBA-ready players in the class and should be able to score and rebound consistently even during his rookie season.

    4. Cleveland: Thomas Robinson, 6-10, PF, Kansas
    TOO BIG TO FAIL?
    NBA draft history is littered with tall men who became busts as pros.

    Robinson doesn't make sense to Cleveland, but we feel that a trade is likely here with Charlotte moving back and adding the Cavs' 24th pick. The Jayhawk standout really impressed scouts this season with his added face-the-basket skills. He played with great energy all season, and there is no questioning his heart. Scouts just question how much potential he has.

    3. WASHINGTON WIZARDS: THOMAS ROBINSON
    In my opinion, here's the keystone pick, the choice that puts everything else in order. The players available to Cleveland, Sacramento, Portland and the rest obviously depend on what the Wizards decide, but it also moves the specific positional markets. There are a lot of big men in the 3-10 range; if the Wizards dip their toe in, those could begin to dry up more quickly than expected. If they go with the best wing or guard available, everyone else is sort of forced to take a big man. It's quite a predicament!

    I currently think they'll take Robinson, a high-character D.C. native who can rebound the Hades out of the ball, defend, score in the pivot and will never ever Blatche the team. New Traditions, y'all.

    Robinson would be the No. 1 pick in a lot of drafts. The Bobcats could slide down to No. 3 or No. 4, but will likely only do so if they feel Robinson will still be on the board.
    Robinson is considered more solid than sensational, and the Bobcats could go with him because they simply can't afford to get this pick wrong.

    How does a projected lottery/top5 pick end up being traded only a year later?

    I don't follow the Kings... I'm curious as to what happened or what didn't happen over in Sac. Did their FO already decide he was a bust, they didn't have the patience to develop him, or do they just think Patsquatch is better?

    Just a crappy 2/3 rookie season.

    Bigs take time to develop; hopefully he will develop or be used as trade bait later today for a blockbuster.

    A. Sac FO decided he's a bust.
    B. He went high b/c 2012 Draft wasn't deep.
    C. Not NBA ready.
    D. They think Patterson's an upgrade.

    more likely, pure hard cash. They got cash, they saved on salaries. Now, T-Rob looks bust-ish compared to Lillard, Barnes and Drummond, but it's still crazy. I guess they just really wanted those extra couple mil $$$.

    The question - do these money end up in Maloofs' pocket (i.e. this deal is Maloofs draining the Kings as much as possible before the sale is final) or was it blessed by the incoming owner.

    Robinson's per 36 minutes compares to what Asik has been doing in about 27

    10 pts 11 rebs

    Would be great value if he finally gets real NBA minutes

    Sacramento is a terrible place for a top prospect to go and also Robinson is a young rookie. His perceived stock is down. His actual value is almost unchanged.

    Nah he's definitely not as good as scouts thought he would be heading into the NBA.

    A lot of that is likely due to the toxic situation in Sacramento though, how much will be interesting to see.

    Nothing changed, really. The Kings happened.

    I haven't gone through the Robinson trade thread, so somebody else might have brought this up already, but I remember Steve Kerr being on the BS Report about a month or so ago talking about Cousins and the Kings situation, where he brought up Thomas Robinson, saying something along the lines of if one were put this guy on any other team and just tell him to crash the glass, he'd be a nightly double-double waiting to happen.

    Granted, Steve Kerr has been wrong about a bunch of things, but the Rockets obviously appear think similarly in this case.

    I could imagine the rationale for the Kings would be something to the effect of them viewing Robinson as a bust and Patterson as being a good fit on their roster, which he is.

    The relationship between Cousins and Patterson dating back to their college days which could play an integral role in getting Cousins to be happy with the franchise given that he's a free agent at the end of next season.

    And some desperation from the Maloofs for cash.

    I won't say its a problem,but what is thomas robinsons special trait? Is he oversized,super athlete,or great shooter or ballhandler? No. So its not that strange to see a highly productive college top pick struggle. In college, he used a lot of his brute power to get the best of guys,but rght now,he can't do that. He's playing against bigger,stronger guys in the nba. He still has time and we've seen guys get traded their rookie year turn out to be good players.

    Even if Robinson doesn't turn out to be all that, he's still more valuable an asset than what the Rockets gave up for him.
    You rarely lose deals where you package multiple players for one.

    Robinson probably is unlikely to be dealt on draft night and he might be a Rocket for the next few years, but if Dwight Howard would want to come here in the summer, you could package Asik, Robinson, future 1sts for one of the elite PFs
    Not only is that a much more appealing package, but you could potentially still keep D-Mo developing behind the PF you trade for.

    EDIT: Also, if the teams you are trying to make a package-deal with don't want Robinson themselves, it should be much easier to find a facilitating third team giving up value for Robinson than it would have been for Patterson & Morris.
    The Bobcats for example were said to be very high on Robinson before the draft. They probably won't hold Robinson as high in regard anymore, but you still might be able to flip Robinson for something like the DET 2014 1st (top-8 protected) they own in some kind of deal, which may or may not be more appealing to the other team you're trying to make a deal with.
