This is just a thought I had for a new feature, and I'm not sure if this is easy or difficult to implement. Currently, when a user's reputation points falls within a certain range, he's associated with a particular past/present Rockets player. Instead of it being fixed, what if when a user hits a certain number of reputation points then that "unlocks" new players that he can then select from. So, first you start out with a bunch of former scrubs to choose from. After 100 rep points or whatever, you can now choose from players like Juwan Howard, Patrick Patterson, Jim Jackson. And so on. As you hit a new threshold, that gives you access to more players to choose from. If you want to stick with one player you can do that. For example, maybe someone's favorite player is Chuck Hayes, so when she attains the ability to be that player she sticks with him and doesn't switch when more players are "unlocked" for her.
Actually, I thought of the idea when someone in the other thread asked to be Parsons instead of Jeremy Lamb. Then I thought of Hayesfan.
Or just hover over the green bars. But its a good point. For this to even be worthwhile, probably the association to a Rockets player has to be more visible. Would an avatar be too much?
Problem is that it's the best way to see how many points a person has, people choosing all different kinds of names would make it tough to guess on what level someone is.
Doesn't the number of green squares tell you that? Maybe not as precise, but I think that's good enough.
I think that may defeat the purpose of the ranking system. You'd have people with a lot of rep and Dmo as their avatar. It could be confusing, even with the rep bar. How about removing the rep bar completely and just using a handful of players' faces, as avatars, instead?
So the idea is that the expanded choices for an avatar will be more of a reward for obtaining a certain amount of rep. But the avatar wouldn't indicate specifically how reputable the poster is -- that's what the rep bar is for.
Lol, Durvasa, I have a better idea. Let's leave this world behind. Let's collect as much MANA and FIRE and POTION and +1's as we can and create the strongest character possible. Then let's leave our physical bodies and enter the body of the character in the monitor. Each and every move we make will be mapped by an SQL or XML script and exported to excel, full customisable with graphs, pie charts and numerous algorithms that can be entered into a central database. And although this will likely arouse us, there won't be any need to physically fornicate or molest ourselves - as this can be simulated through the numbers. The possibilities are endless when you just give a big **** you to the world outside.
Dawg, this isn't sim city. This is a basketball message board where celebrities occassionally drop by to share their sexual exploits. Let the real Durvasa show in your words, don't worry too much about your mana potion and status. It's unattractive.
