Seriously. This is how bad schaub has been playing. At leadt alex smith does audibles, can do the no huddle and can run the ball
When your offensive system (no matter the called play from the sideline) gives the QB a choice of 3-4 different plays to run depending on his read at the line, pretty much every play the Texans run is an "audible".
say who.. schaub plus this system>>>alex smith alex smith>>>schaub schaub is at the bottom of the barrel without kubiak.. a handful of average qbs that get made fun of everyday by texans fans, would thrive in kubiaks system...
so . . . coming up to the line see 8 men in the box . . . run into the line that is all on Schaub? Rocket River ok
everyone wants to blame schaub, who is pulling strings on offense? gary needs to understand to let the man audible if a play is dead. alex smith?? schaub is better, not elite though but we can still win with him.
what we need is a new head coach, another shutdown corner, n a widereciever to help dre. walters is not getting seperation like he used to.
i agree. i mean c'mon quit being a homer and see schaub for what he is. 1. he is completely immobile. yesterday he was FLINCHING before contact instead of sliding around the pocket eyes down the field. No joke, i had flashbacks of Carr the way Schaub was flinching and ducking yesterday. Also, he runs the only 1 option boot in the entire NFL. No way he will ever run for a first down off the boot leg. It's either a completion or throwaway. Lately it's a throw away since the league seems wise to it. 2. it is a known fact he has a weak arm. just last week he under threw AJ on what should have be a TD. instead AJ had to go circus mode just to catch. So we have a QB with a week arm and no feet. Folks, that's not good.
What we need is to rebuild the right side of our O-line. Letting Winston and Brisiel go has killed us. It was arrogant of Kubes and Smith to think that they could just plug anyone in over there.
Some plays are scripted, some are not. Also, just because you have 3-4 options to choose from, does not mean that any of them are pass plays.
Well, considering they had "just plugged anyone in" over the last 3-4 years and done just fine (Winston was replaced easily by Butler and Briesel was gotten off the scrap heap for chump change), I think it was a better gamble than letting Foster, Brown, Schaub, or Meyers walk (the 3 guys who got paid with the money saved from letting Briesel and Winston go). Considering the team is 12-3, they look pretty damned smart, actually.
ben jones has been great and will get better. RT could use an upgrade.. here is the thing. both guys are first year starters, you can see the progression in newton each game. most of the criticism about the o-line has been in the run game. well, the texans couldnt get anything even when they ran to the left side. i remember plenty of people last year complaining about briesel and winston in pass pro. at some point your qb has to make a play. no matter how good your o-line is, DC's will find a away to get to you qb. people want to act like every qb in this league doesnt have to deal with collapsing pockets, remember the green bay game. rodgers never had a pocket to stand in, he did most of his damage outside the tackle box, thats what mobile qbs with strong arms can give you. thats what tj was demonstrating yesterday before he got hammered.. schaub is scared, you cant teach this stuff. i give the guy credit, he is tough, but if there is the potential of contact he will shy away from it. often ending plays before they develop.. he stood tall in the pocket on the joe mays hit because it was his blind side. had it been the oppisite, schuab would have went down before mays arrived..
From all of the local sports guys Ben Jones is repeatedly getting blown up at OG, but Brooks has been playing well of late.
First, Alex Smith while potentially a little more mobile won't be much better then Schaub. Heck, if what they say about his range is accurate Smith might be worst for our WRs and handicap the few down field plays we see called. As for Ben Jones has hit the rookie wall these last few games, especially with Caldwell out and him having to take the majority of snaps. That is why they started playing Brooks, who unfortunately is still raw and not even up to the same level as Jones in understanding the system. We still probably need to look into getting a guard, since Wade Smith has one more season after this one and I don't see us resigning him based on this season. Harris has also spent some time out there as the Right Tackle due to Newton's injury and recovery.
