yeah, it's a weird question and I find her motives for asking to be more important than any answer you give.

 

Appropriate answer: i dont know but i sure dont want to think about how it would be without you...(because then youd see how happy i am and you would get pissed off) or (because i really do love you and dont want to lose you)

Of course do not say either thought. This answer is vague enough and gives a half truth but at the same time sounds like a good hard answer.

A little context would help. If you just asked her to marry you, for example, and she responded with that, then I'd say it's a red flag. If it's an out-of-the-blue musing, I'd say it's not indicative of anything by itself. You just say 'forever' and move on. It's a throwaway question and deserves a throwaway answer.
