I thought noodles were a type of pasta. How would one characterize spaghetti?

I like pasta/dry noodles. Noodles doesn't always have to be in soup, there are dishes that have noodles with sauces too.

I would call it pasta, but strictly speaking I don't know if there's really a difference between noodles and pasta.

I've read that there are two types of pasta -- noodles (with egg) and macaroni (without egg).

Personally, I usually just think of pasta as having Italian origin, and noodles as something originating outside of Italy, especially East Asian cuisine.
